I have two EU SunRise kendamas and the way that the ken is lathed is different. The first is similar to the pre-EU SunRise's (slimmer towards the first lip). The second and newer one is thicker, and closer shape to Ozora or TK-16.

They are both nice, but I prefer the prior. Anybody else? The life of the EU's paint was greatly increased, so I'm guessing that the new shape also works towards that effect as well.

I have 3:

A prototype (slightly more bulbous Slip Grip), a Mark II (The current line), and one unbranded one, which is also a touch more curvy on the slip-grip. Not sure where the unbranded one comes in, but I like the Mark II best.
If you don't want to BUY MY BOOKS 😉, then why not ask your local library to order them in, and read them for free? That would help too. Cheers!

I dont really like any of them that much to be honest.
The proto has silly low qual paint and the wood isnt very dense...
Mark I is better but still i dont like the weight (person preference i suppose) and the paint was still naff.
Mark II nothing actually wrong with them, good kendamas. I just dont like the weight as much as the jka models.
I'm hopful about the mark III :)

Fair enough, but different samples of the same type of wood can vary in weight.
Sunrise X might be lighter than Ozora Y, but then Sunrise Z might be heavier than Ozora Å.

I guess we can all only go on what we experience, though.

I've been meaning to get my hands on one of the new purple sunrise models, my friend Evan has one and it felt great when I tried it out
I wasnt much of a fan of the earlier sunrise models, ken was too light in my opinion, but the new ones look great!

The Japanese Guys are buying the Sunrise 1 with pleasure, because of the slippery paint, it is hard to land a Moonlander(lunar) so they get better skills.
I can imagine, that the 6Th Dan players want a new challenge.
:)

i have all difference kind of sunrise, from Prototype normal and Proto performer, Sunrise 1 in 5 colors, 1 Sunrise is mixed up with new ken and a fat sorado with a old yellow ball, and i have the new collection Sunrise EU include golden version , and the UV Performer.

I'm glad the new paint is more sticky now and won't chip to easy.
great Job Sunrise.
