« on: 19 January, 2016, 22:18:41 »
The gears have started moving. I am to get a confirmation of the venue, but it is very likely to happen in the same place as past year, as part of the Dublin Circus Festival.

All the info: http://kendama-ireland.org/irish-kendama-open-2016/

Date: 9th April 2016. (Dublin Circus Festival is 8th-10th in case you want to attend the whole convention)

Beginners Division

Trick Ladder, 3 attempts per trick.

* Big Cup
* Candle
* Moshi Kame (3 catches). (No rimshots allowed. Start from hanging.)
* Orbit (Orbit must be around the ball, in any direction)
* Spike (No spin on ball)
* Flying Top (Ball must completely leave the spike)
* Tap-back
* Aeroplane
* Around Japan
* Lighthouse (Hold still for 3 seconds)
* Falling Down (continued from lighthouse, only one try)

Advanced Division

Knockout. Only 12 tricks this year, early rounds (if any) tricks 1-8 and played to the first of 2 points, final tricks 4-12 and played to the first of 3 points.

Early Rounds
* Around the World
* Secret grip spike -> Flying top pivot
* [Weak Hand] Spike
* Fork catch -> Spike
* Swing to small bird

*pssst* typo in page title...

Oh, so the date changed from when you thought it was going to be? Well, I checked flights again, just on the offchance, and it turns out that...

See you there! Hats off for organising this again.
If you don't want to BUY MY BOOKS 😉, then why not ask your local library to order them in, and read them for free? That would help too. Cheers!

Just checked, and there are also cheap day return flights from Edinburgh, Glasgow, & Leeds. I wonder if that interests anyone....

Yes, the dates of the circus festival have changed. They were announced a week ago.

Great to have you there. I bet this year trick list is easier... We'll see.

Thanks for the vid. Today I decided which of my Royals to start wearing in, and did my first run through the list. 3 of them provided me with various degrees of annoyance.

Minor name quibbles/pedantry: ;)
There's no "Aeroplane" in "Aeroplane > Swap Spike", so I'd call it "1-Turn Swap Spike".
Strictly speaking, it's "Reverse *1-Turn* Lighthouse", and "Reverse Falling Down" is a.k.a. "Falling (Away)".
But you've done the video now, so it's too late.

Anyway... practice! Hope I'm going to have an opponent...

Thanks for the clarifications on naming :-) yes it's a bit too late, but I think they are easy to understand.

Also, think about not giving tricks 1-4 too much practice, since they are only for early rounds, if any. ;-)

Worse case I'll play against you.

For the annoyances, my bets are the one eye monkey chair and the fork catch spike. The last one could be a few, but less annoying than the rest.

Good!

Questions re…
* Fork catch -> Spike
…: Does it matter which fingers the ken is caught between?
Also, the sara-do seems to want to twist whenever I catch it. Does that matter, if it's forward-back, instead of side-to-side?

PS Nice hoodie! ;)

For the fork catch, the sara-do needs to be perpendicular to your fingers. I personally find catching between middle and ring the easiest, also for the continuation, but that's not mandatory.

You can trap the sara-do in any of the 2 sides, but I find myself it to be easier if the string hole is facing away from me.

Yes, it is a very nice and very exclusive hoodie :)
