Hey guys! I'm looking to get a natural ozora, and the choice is between keyaki and maple. I'm mostly wondering...
1.Which is more durable?
2. Which 'breaks in' the nicest?
I haven't had a full maple or keyaki kendama before. Thank you!

I don't have any kendamas in either of those woods. I like the feel of the keyakis I've briefly tried, though.
If you don't want to BUY MY BOOKS 😉, then why not ask your local library to order them in, and read them for free? That would help too. Cheers!

Hey @rhys_goes_peace I have all the Ozora hardwoods Keyaki, Maple and Enjyu and they are  all fantastic. Well they are Ozora after all.

Regards the maple and keyaki though:

Maple is really nice and durable, but takes a looooong time to break in nicely.

Keyaki breaks in amazingly well and is pretty durable too. However it does smell rather odd. Its kinda like marmite you'll either love it or hate it!

I would recommend the Keyaki to you though, as its the OG Ozora hardwood.

Hope this helps.

Hey Rhys. I also have both of these ozora kendamas, and like them both for different qualities.
Maple for me is the go to for any cup tricks it has a great weight for that kind of play. Keyaki is lighter but still really durable. I've played my keyaki a lot and it is well broken in now. Of the two I would say keyaki is the favourite as I feel it is a better all rounder. Be prepared for the smell though lol [emoji23]
