Hi all, I have some questions regarding seals.

Firstly I recently purchased a keyaki Ozora and when I received it it came with the regular seal all my other Ozoras have, has anyone else had this problem?

Secondly does anyone have any tips on the best method for removing and reapplying seals? I've been thinking about painting or dyeing some kens and would want to keep the seal looking as fresh as possible.

Thanks.

1) The rumour is that JKA are moving back to solely having the "competition seal", and ditching the "recommended" one. So it's not a "problem", if anything it's a benefit - you can use it in regulated competitions.

2) Pass. Anyone else?
If you don't want to BUY MY BOOKS 😉, then why not ask your local library to order them in, and read them for free? That would help too. Cheers!

I believe that painting a ken is not an allowed modification, and therefore it will invalidate the kendama for competition. So, for that case, the seal will be completely redundant.

Anyway, I'm not entirely sure of that, can anyone confirm?

Thanks for your responses, however I won't be participating in competitions any time soon, I'm just after the looks mostly.

I know companies such as roots kendama stain/dye jka kens and put the seals back on, I'm just not sure how to go about it without butchering the sticker.

Not tried this but I would recommend holding the ken over a boiling kettle to allow the steam to work at the glue, then remove with a small modelling knife/craft knife, that is, if it loosens up enough at all. Maybe there are other players on the forum with a better idea?

I have a friend who is an artist/crafty type recommend I try the steam method, would like to hear more ideas before I commit to anything though.

ive done this plenty of times as i rather enjoy rit-dye and kendamas :)

what i do is wrap the ken in a paper towel, and zap it in the microwave for ~20 seconds. then, take an exacto (or something with a very fine tip) and lift up the seal and slowly/carefully peel away. after that, place it face down on a dish in the fridge. once the dama is dyed/painted, re-apply the seal with a touch of super glue in the center.

@PikWik

How do you dye your kens? Could you explain the process, tools etc...
