Title: My practice tip . . .
Post by: Kev on 20 March, 2013, 23:52:10
I've got a great tip to share with you ...

Years ago when I was learning how to juggle, I heard one of the best bits of advice. I've used it now for over 25 years whenever I've been practicing a new skill or anything that demands concentration and focus.

It's reliable for good progress and feelgood practice.

It is, *drumrolls* - "Always finish on a good note".

Simple really, but keeps you going until you've landed that trick just one more time, or better than before. Don't stop after a series of drops. Finish on the high note!

The moment you do you'll want to continue but it's really good to stop - keeps you keen and ready for the next day.

On that note - I was just watching some YouTube for kendama inspiration and discovered 'The Bird' so I decided to try it out until I landed it . . . . . . . amazingly 17 tries later, I got it! Probably a lucky accident but that rush of possibility is just what I need to end my practice on. I was frankly astonished to find the tama sitting there on the edge of the big cup! Great note to end on!

Hmmm, I wonder when I'll land it again ???

Night all :)

I try to live by this method. If I am stuck on a trick, I will do a slightly easier trick before I put the kendama down. I cant stand ending my session with a miss.

I always end my practice session with a trick that ends on the spike (currently it's swing-in). That cleans up the Kendama and gives me a good feeling for this session, as Kev said.

I also agree that this is an awesome tip to anyone who hasnt already adopted it!

I can never put down a kendama before landing something. Kind of sucks sometimes if you have had to many beers "cant talk right now, gotta land this", or if you are just really off.

Haha ive been late to places because of this :P never had the guts to tell my teacher the real reason why i was late though.

"uh yeah, had to land a kendama trick before i left; would rather be late than have my day messed up in such a horrible fashion"
