Did you got a Galaxy Nexus or is it a custom ROM of ICS? Is a great phone, I love it :)
Nope, it is my old Nexus S with official ICS OTA update. Galaxy Nexus is too big for me. I miss Instagram and iPhone camera on Andoid phones so I maybe switch to iOS. ;)

Worked great On my HTC Desire S. Its smooth, fast and the videos downloaded pretty quickly. Good work!
Will there be updates with more ladders e.g. the EKO/BKO 2012 ladders, or the more exotic JKA/kengarden/Consistency comp ladders?
Or even more tricks???
P.S. Thanks for doing android first. ;)
Thanks for the positive feedback!
Many people say that if you make your app to be on the home screen of a phone, you are doing it right. There is not much space for quick icons there :)
The idea it to check if it gets enough user base, then we had plans to include more features, probably no more tricks, but improving self-certification, kettle trick, play ladders, etc
For the moment we are working on the iOS version, which is almost completed, and a free version with less features and videos.
UPDATE Lite version now available for FREE - see first post ^.
I bought the app for my Acer Iconia Tab A500 tablet. It is awesome!!! The videos of the tricks helps my students to see the tricks in action. I highly recommend it.
It's times like this I hate my phone... it's a Nokia and therefore, only has access to the Nokia Ovi Store and not the android market :(

Just informing you that KendamApp free passed 1,000 downloads yesterday :)
And as of today, the full version is on 99 downloads. Who will be #100?
Hello.
I just bought KendamApp, it's quite nice. As Android/iOS apps go, it's more expensive than most... perhaps make it clearer that proceeds go to support BKA? That'd probably increase sales.
Just a bit of initial feedback... I went quickly from Lite to full when I found out I could only record my kyu progress with the full app. So that carrot worked for me. ;-)
The videos... excellent to have videos showing each trick. Suggestion: make sure in each video that the kendama is clearly visible. For example, for the video of trick 2 (small cup), the camera is at a far enough distance (along with lighting issues) that I can't look at the video and distinguish the starting position of the kendama (small cup facing up, cups horizontal, etc). With this trick it's not a big deal, but it's something to watch for.
Feature request: being able to put the video on a loop. I like to watch a video four or five times to take in all the details, and if I could press a loop button this would be easier.
Mark
Another suggestion: Include a text description of how to perform the trick. For example, the appropriate grip could be specified, as well as any helpful tips.
Hi, thanks for the feedback!
Looping is a good idea.
As for your other points, the thinking of what the app should be when we were coming up with it, was that it should be something between a reference library and a diary. It wasn't intended to be specifically a teaching tool. Sure, we could put a little bit of text description in, but I found that when writing my books that you usually have to write quite a lot more than you think you do to get the point across. (Plus, on a personal, and perhaps slightly selfish level, I didn't want the app to compete with the books. :) ) So the videos are intended as references to tricks, or ideas to inspire. If it had been meant as a teaching app, then yes, the videos could have had more close-ups and editing work. But then it would have turned into a large-scale version of the DVD (http://www.kendama.co.uk/dvd.html), and the editing required for doing that for over 100 tricks is off the scale.
I see from your posts that you're a beginner. (Welcome to kendama, and the forum, by the way!) If you'd have asked, I probably would have (hopefully impartially!) recommended the books over the app to you. But since you liked the free version and decided to upgrade, I won't feel too bad. I just re-read the app description, and I hope it isn't misleading...?
Just complementing what Void said.
The app has been made because we wanted to make it. It is expensive, yes, but the niche is so small that it will take years before it pays for the development costs alone, not counting the filming and editing.
I have plans for a new update (I still need to find some time to do it) where you can see how close you are to certain certifications based on your score on some tricks, and therefore, to know which ones you should practice more.
I am going to add that because I feel like I need it myself :-)
I'll take a look about looping videos. Thanks!
I have uploaded Android version 1.1.2 with the information about how close you are to a grade based on your tracking (you saw me using it during the EJC)
Android Version 1.1.3 is on, we found a few issues on the UI that probably nobody noticed, but I did.
Also custom ladders were missing the options of edit and delete (broken in 1.1.2) so, please, update.
Finally, the free version is nearing 2K downloads!
The free version has passed 2,000 downloads, woohoo.
And today KendamApp is one year old. Almost 5K Downloads of the Lite version and almosr 200 of the Pro.
I've got both, the iOS and the Android version. But I find the Android version much better. The track keeping of the skill list is more motivating. What I like the most:
- the x out of 10 entry to count how many successful attempts you had
- the "skill tracker", i.e. that the skill level achievements are automatically marked depending on your trick success (and the date if I'm not mistaken)
- the moshi-kame counter (that directly can be used from the skill tracker).
Is there any plan to update the iOS version?
Could u guys please make a free iOS version so us people without credit cards don't have to put into on the web!
Hi Raul,
is there any way to download the ladders for EKO2013 to the Android App? Or does this only work via update of a new version?
Thanks for information
Hi Lars,
You can enter a ladder by hand, which can do it.
The only way to add new ones to "preloaded" is to do an update (which we should be doing anytime soon)
The problem seems to be (with both iOS and Android) to add Knee Bounce. It's not in the current list of tricks and I can't find a way to add a custom trick. Is this possible?
It's not currently possible, but is something Raul is looking at.
Meanwhile, try Body Bounce.
Sorry, iOS development is currently stalled. :-[
In the meantime, KendamApp Lite has made it to 5,000 downloads.

I wish i could get this app somehow :(
Could someone make an online mobile version? Makes sense, it would be universal between everything! Even computers run mobile versions.
please please please!
The worst part about having an iphone is that the kendamapp dev on the IOS side is AWOL.
I just got the pro version. Very nice app.
I have a suggestion though... You know how on the trick list section you can check a trick off when you land it. There should be a visual representation of that on the list itself. So when browsing the tricks you know what tricks you landed at first glance.
Maybe i should hunt down a new dev for the ios version?
About the visual hint for the tricks you've already done, it is one of the features I have in mind for the next release, which includes the latest BKO / EKO vids
I am eagerly looking forwards to this update. Thanks!!!
Hello :) Is this the right place to report errors with the app? When using yesterday on iOS it crashed if I tried to mark a trick as landed. The only option was to uninstall and reinstall (has been fine since but history lost - no big deal but would be if it had years worth of records in there).
Not complaining or moaning just passing on the info in case it's useful in future.
It's such a great app, highly recommended - great to have resource in your pocket at all times.
:)
Thanks for the report. We'll PM you...
Got your message, will send over next time I sync. To be fair it's entirely possible it's not an issue with the app, seems rock solid again now so could have been my phone being weird.
Will still send when I get a chance :)
Android version is updated to 1.2, which includes:
* 20 new videos
* EKO / BKO lists for 2013
* Trick lists have icons for ladder, knockout and timed
* Tricks show if you have done them or not
* Easier trick track recording
* Fixed problems with detection and rotation
Raul, thanks for updating the app. I use it regularly in my training. I only hope that the iPad app would also be updated one day.

Gah you guys really have to do something for iphone! I paid for the app and it never gets updated :( Its crappy seeing all the new stuff im missing out on. Could you at least send me the full android version so i can use it on bluestacks (android emulator for mac)
Yeah i paid for the ios iphone app and i can use an update aswell as a moshi kame counter. I need it!
We would really love to see an iOS update too! It's all in BatDancer's hands. Feel free to message him.
Wouldnt it be cool if u can as your own tricks with ur own videos!
adding your own tricks has been in the plans for a long time, but it is not a trivial thing to do
Finally got a smartphone this weekend (I caved to the pressures of modern times) and the first app I got was the kendama app of course. Today I upgraded to the full version and it's just great, so good to have a source of inspiration in your pocket. Planning on going through it entirely, trying to 10/10 all the tricks. It's gonna take me a while, but that's the challenge.
Two questions,
- Do I need to change any settings on my phone to make the moshikame-detect function work? (If this is a noob question, I admit, I am a smartphone noob)
- If there is time, could you upload the BKO 2014 list? I'm starting my practice, it would be good to have that in my pocket.
Great stuff!!
The moshi-kame detector uses the microphone, so in principle it should just work. Note that it has a "sensibility" setting (the bar) which you can adjust, maybe you have it too low.
We have to think about adding the lists for 2014 indeed. Usually I like the new lists to have all tricks listed, so it also implies that we have to update the current tricks.
Glad you liked it :)
It would also be nice for the IOS to be updated as well

The Android app is almost at 10K installs for the free one and 500 for the paid one. Not that bad :)
Wow, 10000?! That's cool. (Even if it is the free one. :) )
Hi there from the States! I'm new to the Kendama world and am diggin' it. I have a Kindle Fire and thanks to Amazon cannot access the googleplay store. Is there anyway I could purchase the full version of KendamApp for my Kindle from somewhere direct? I just need the .apk file. Thanks for any help! This looks like a great app.
Nashfire
Hi,
That is going to be complicated, not only because Amazon treats developers terribly (I used to have an account there, and I closed it just to stop dealing with them) but also because the app uses a feature that is only available on google play, which is the "extension package" (that is, the file that contains all the videos) which requires that the person needs to obtain the app via google play (even for the free one)
Sorry I can't help you better.
Hey thanks for the info!
I found the free app through 1mobile market but to buy the full version it sends me to googleplay again... ::) That's what I get for a cheap tablet. Oh well, not like there r no other resources out there. Thanks again for the info! I will be able to get it eventually. Have a great day!
Cheers,
Chris
Raul, can you please help me? I've got the full app on my android phone. And recently I've got some issues with the skill lists. I think the colour code is as follows:
- red: never had the required number of successful tries
- orange: already had the required number of successful tries, but not in the last attempt
- green: had the required number of successful tries in the last attempt
If that's right, the colours somehow don't match. I'm currently practicing for 1st Dan and I need
- 4 Around the worlds - had 4 today, but it shows orange
- 3 Earth turns - did that already twice in the past, but it shows red
- 1 Around the cosmos - had 1 today, but it shows orange
Is there a bug, or am I misinterpreting the colours?
Thanks for any feedback.
Red is "Not successful in any of my last 5[nb]5? Ish![/nb] attempts."
Orange is "At least once in my last 5 attempts."
Green is "Successful in my 3 latest attempts."
Yep, BKA is right.
Actually, you made a good point in the lack of information about the color code inside the app :-)
The idea is that green means you are consistent, orange means they you can do it, but not consistently.
Great and thanks for the reply. So the colours tell me, that I still have some way to go for 1st Dan. But of course I knew that :)
I like the App! Even if I know my practising state, it's nice to get some visual representation.
We just passed the 500 downloads for the full version! Lite version is on 11,000 downloads already :)
Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to announce a new version of the app (Android only) which includes Self Certification and also 32 new videos!
