Hey, I've only  had a Kendama for a couple weeks and I've been learning on my own.

Since I've only had a Kendama for a few weeks and I don't really know anything about it at all any tips are good, what did you mean by knees?

Sorry, it's pretty much a catchphrase now, and it refers to good technique:
All kendama catches (ball or ken) should happen downwards, so that you are absorbing the momentum of the [ball or ken]. You can enhance this downward motion by making sure that when you do every catch, you are moving your hand downwards AND bending your knees.
Also, using your knees in the launch of [pretty much any trick] will help to reduce any 'string jerk' that your hand may inadvertently give to the ball/ken.
