Someone else was going to start this thread, but I've forgotten who. They didn't, so now I have. :-)
Everyone gets excited about getting new toys, so here's a thread for sharing pics of your new goodies!

I've had a few Kendama's turn up n the past week or two, first delivery was these 5:

I just got this on the mail this morning. It is my new everyday kendama.
It looks great, I wanted to try the new Play for a long time.
I noticed that the sarado is a higher than for my other kendamas (Ozora, TK16 & Sunrise) (and therefore, the spike shorter) maybe because the hole is too small. Is this normal?
Sara-dos tend to gently slip down with use. It's likely that your other 3 kendamas all started off with their sara-dos a little higher, but have each slipped down a little with age. (Everyone sags a bit with age ;) ) Enjoy the nice Jumping Sticks and Earth Turns of your new Play!
Maybe you are right, although I think the last Ozora did have it a bit lower, but it is true that all my other kendamas have been extensively used :)
I can confirm that birds work really well with it :) Will go and practice Speed Trick B later on today.
After a very wet walk him today, these cheered me up...
I got a Blue w/ grey stained ken aTack
And a swamp moster Voodama
Both from sweets
-Rob
Actually, I didn't need anything right now. But I was in Osaka last week and just had to check the shops. The choice was very poor, just a few Ozoras and TK16s (Yodobashi Camera). But at only 12,- EUR for an Ozora, I had to buy one. I didn't have a red one so far ...
I have a soft spot for Red Ozoras myself :)
Today I got this birthday gift from my most lovely wife. It's awesome and even though it almost breaks my heart (I was completely surprised and she put so much thought into it), we'll give it back. Technically it's not so well made: the zippers almost don't get around the edge, one's already broken, and in total they don't run very smooth. One of the separators inside is already broken.
Besides (it's completely custom made), my wife asked for something smaller just to carry 4-5 kendamas, properly separated, something you can carry around with you or put into your backpack for travel. This here is almost a suitcase with rigid walls. The maker admitted that she went way over the top with the concept (she even did some google research about kendamas), i.e. she knew well what she was doing.
We would ignore all that if it wasn't for the price. She almost quadrupled the price my wife originally intended.
So, we'll ask her to re-use the material (look at the stitching) and come up with a smaller bag. Yet, I'm so happy anyway and I'm looking forward to what will come.
Oh, that's a shame that it didn't turn out well. The idea is really nice (and thoughtful), but yes, it's a bit too big, isn't it, unless you want to carry your collection of Performers around. The lettering looks great though!
I have a couple of smallish hard cases which I fit 10 or so kendamas into. But when looking to carry a small number of KDs in a larger bag or case, I don't really have an ideal solution. But then I tend to swap around my bag/kendama numbers/choices so much that it doesn't really bother me. (Currently using a Tesco BagForLife!)
I've been kicking myself ever since I missed out on the Snow Gold and Sparkling Green Mugen Musous, but today definitely made up for it!
This showed up extremely quick from Japan, it was mailed on the 20th and got here this afternoon. I can't say enough about the craftsmanship, everything about it just 'feels' right. The paint job on the tama is absolutely gorgeous with just the right amount of tack for balance tricks. I'm almost nervous to give it a proper breaking in, but as soon as some of my initial awe fades away I will be sure to put it through its paces.

Two things for me today. A new Sweets Focus, plus my JKA membership. I'm pretty sure that makes me and @nori_to_mo the only 2 members of both _KAs.

Read about it on http://kendama.or.jp/english/ (http://kendama.or.jp/english/) BUT email them first, as the fees are slightly different for foreigners. (We assume that) they will send you an application form with joining details.

WOW.....the wood is just gorgeous....Beautiful. How does it play and what's the wood.
Larry
It's olive wood and only did a few big cups on it. Not going to play it anymore just for display it's a piece of art to me :). Also the wood is very heavy. This one gets a nice spot next to the mosou. The best looking kendama i got!
After being in the UK nearly 2 weeks (Damn Parcelforce!) Finally got my breeze orange, best colour so far!

The only kendama I bought for myself in Japan. Premium white came out of its box the other day. Went back in to watch Max Oddball bounce juggle.

I'll have a workshop tomorrow at the 2. Stuttgart Youth Circus Festival (https://www.facebook.com/pages/2-Stuttgarter-Jugendzirkusfestival/168706233147835) and I ordered 10 new Sunrise Streets. As of tonight only four people have registered. Whatever, I'm looking forward to it.
And here are the ten beauties - very nice colours.
Got myself a Shin Fuji yesterday,
(http://i62.tinypic.com/fk71c5.jpg)
My first mugen musou.
Had a moment of "keep it pristine" pop into my brain after opening, but that faded into curiosity and regular play. Brought it to studio and the folks agree that this thing plays like a beauty.
The paint/coating reminds me of nail polish clear as it's glossy and yet has a medium-soft and rubbery tactile profile. The cups are generally 1.5 mm plus diameter compared to the kenUSA tributes. The wood has been tooled to a higher quality in appearance and feel. The "click" is a noticeably softer pitch or slightly muted when compared to other beech kendama as well.
The replaceable tips are very soft and scar very easily ate the tama hole edges. Comes with one extra string and tip but swooping the extras box is a good idea.

I hear ya Bryan! Had to resist the urge to splurge at events before the release date and camp out on their site twenty minutes before the magic hour. Post the green when you get it! It looks super rad.
I feel you there Daniel! I plan on camping out on the site for a while to secure my order! But I'm also kinda torn between buying a grain theory kendama. They look just as amazing and I hear they play just as well as a mugen. But I will indeed post pics when they come!

Just got myself this lovely Krom Invert Zebra as a little treat for achieving my 1st Dan earlier this month, (you gotta reward progress right?)
Plays really nicely, with a solid, heavy and clunky feel. Feels well balanced and has been nicely made.
And . . . it's a lovely sunny day so heading outside with it now!

Just got myself this lovely Krom Invert Zebra . . .
I'd not heard of a Krom Viking until you mentioned it - I searched the web for an image and I have to say it looks precisely the same - except where it says 'Viking' instead of 'Deluxe' obvs.
Do you know anything about the Viking? I'm guessing it might be larger or something? Or possibly different wood? The brown wood does look a touch darker than mine but hard to say.
Anyway, my lil' ol' Invert Zebra has taken a battering this afternoon - plays really nicely!
The handle is larger in size I believe is the only difference.
Fair enough, more like a Mugen Musou kind of size then I guess?
Tsk! I don't know, all the people using big easy kendama's these days ha ha! ::)
Not really a "new" arrival, but I exchanged my Shin-Fuji for a Sweets (both used) with Hans.
I played with a viking prototype a long while ago and they definitely improved a lot since. They play really nice!
Lots of sick vikings getting released in the near future!

check this out!
Been on a bit of a frenzy recently.
The two on the left are from the bko (prize and purchase). Then we have a keyaki ahin fuji (only arrived today so we shall see), week old tribute, pearl musou from the april release, red homegrown (came today thanks to an online fb raffle win) and a kcn circa courtesy of yoko! Unsure about if I'll play the circa, but the others will have their thrashing soon enough. ..
Nice haul Matty! Lots of fun there (I'd like to hear how that Ozora is working out - seemed quite light right?).
And Theo - thanks for the image showing the Viking too. :)
The ozora is working out ok, very light so spacewalk orientated tricks can be affected by weather influence, or if my hands aren't feeling particularly intricate then I can fumble, where a heavier ken has a more solid feeling. Balances and stalls are a dream however, the soft density of the wood does assist quite nicely with "biting". A nice showpiece, but not an every day beast unfortunately.
The biggest shocker was the shin fuji. Strange as two different types of wood (cherry I think for tama and a hardwood for the ken) but they compliment eachother very well. With a comp seal too, this may be coming with me to the eko...
Oh and for my new arrival, I ordered a pill for my girlfriend from kendama usa and entered a special code to be put into a draw run by turner thorne.. Then I also won a new black tribute, which I didnt realise but actually has a goldish engraving around the string hole. Very swanky! (By the way - the pill is horrendously fun albeit a tad limiting, but who doesnt like slamming spike tricks all day ..)
I think that Ozora is the lightest kendama I've ever held, glad to hear it's working well in some areas though.
I've not got a Shin Fuji myself but you make it sound intriguing, might pick one up sometime.
I enjoy The Pill too, satisfying as an object in itself and a good fun toy for when kendama demands too much brain!
Got a pink OG oozora the other day. Love it.

aww yeah shalafi. pills are awesome!
they have the same string length as a kendama, the same spike as a kendama, and the same sized opening for the tama.
and theyre perfectly balanced by terra. mine is 68g for the "ken", & 68g for the "tama". but i dont think i got 'lucky'. im positive they weigh each piece separately. because, my pill is not the same chunk of wood, cut in half. its two different pieces of wood that happen to weigh 68g a piece.
true, there arent as many tricks compared to a regular kendama. but its a great palette cleanser in between dama sessions.
I agree with you, guys, pills are much fun !
PikWik, if you wanted exactly the same weight, I think you're lucky, here are mine :
Lime green : k=68 / t=54 (122g)
Limited Edition Cherry Wood : k=77 / t=60 (137g)
Blue (2014 new boxes) : k=67 / t=63 (130g)
However, they all play well, each one in its way, the heavier cherry wood is really good, aside from being beautiful, with a nice clicking sound :)
hah, thats awesome. thanks for posting the weights like that. it seems like the newer pills (2014) are a little more consistent.
i have one of the 2014 nattys, dyed camo green
Nice pick up shalaf, I got the same one, dont no the weight of mine. Feels solid do
Yes, it is a nice toy, some tricks are easier, but overall I also feel like it makes me better at Kendama.
We were playing some games of Ken with Pills, it was quite fun, mostly becasue we were both making them up on the go. Now that I think about it, they should be games of PILL.
That's right, Pill competitions would be a good idea. Something I also thought about : why not 2 Handed kendama, like the 2A in the yoyo world ?
2 customs from balance kendama a pink jawbreaker on a balance ken and a gold to purple fade keyaki ozora.

Yes it's a girr custom. The wugen
Wow, DamaLife24, you've got a pretty constant flow of new kendamas coming in at the moment! Impressive stuff, especially the honeycomb Wu-tama. Killer bees!
Yes milky I do lol! The next thing to come in will be the first of next month the two grips I ordered and those will be it for a while unless I win something else lol ;) btw this wugen is for sale or trade to anyone interested.
i hear ya
beanie babies aint got nothin on my dama-addiction :o
Brought back from Denmark, an Ultra, and a Red/White Oak Krom.

Two new Musous for the collection. Prism Blue and Peach.
Visiting the local circus shop, my eye fell on a leaf green oozora. Stock count unearthed it from the back of a cupboard. So now I have a 'collectable' for even lower than its original price.*
*I did tell them it was a collectable. I did not play it cool at all.
Nice find, Hans!
I did a tama-swap with someone, so now I have a yellow one of these fellows in my collection, as well as a pink.
I just got my first Mugen Musou today, the Chocolate one, that I ordered on the Gloken website. But the large sticker on the back of the box was already cut, as if it had been opened before, is it normal ? The white tip had small dents, didn't seem brand new (compared to the remplacement one that is perfect), I don't know what to think about that...
I tried it and it plays well however, even if the weight distribution isn't what I expected (ken = 79, tama = 73) while most of my others kendamas have a ken lighter than the tama.
Fred
Normally we'd expect the seal to be unbroken. Maybe it got opened by customs en route?
Perhaps it is worth emailing Gloken about it.
I just got a roots pink lemonade ozora. Super prime!
I won a Friday Kendama Mini Draw the other day. This is what the postman brought today. It's only 12cm high and quite light. I cought Big Cup, Small Cup but can't do Base Cup. I even did Spike, Around the Village and Around Japan. But Around the world is still impossible. And forget about Lighthouse.
But it's very beautiful. The surface is matte, smooth and quite sticky.
congrats LarsVegas! ive always wanted to check out a mini KD
and M.Wang that pink fade looks sick!
Only mildly exciting. Not bad for 3 quid tho'.
Just got my first bilbo, courtesy of Jeffrey Van Reevan. Good laugh, but I am struggling for inspiration beyond the usual ninja earth turns.
If anyone is interested, he probably has some other bilboquets still available at very reasonable prices (best to contact him on Facebook for them!)
And Void... what on earth is that?!
Ha, it's a posable tripod Matt.
The pretty much only shop that has been selling kendamas as far as I know in Oslo imported a fair amount of Ozoras back in the pre 2011 era. Today I went on a hunt. The Keyaki/Enjyus were reduced from over 500kr (~50 £) to 199kr (~20 £). I thought I bought their last OG Ozora (pink) this summer, but they had one more. That one I got for 129kr (13 £). I actually paid more for the Play Pocket K than the much sought after OG oozy. Success!
I paid a devilish amount of money, 199+199+129+139=666kr.

Vad heter butiken? Vore kanske värt att se om det går att beställa ifrån dem, jag är ute efter en Ozora Enjyu men det känns onödigt att beställa från Storbritannien eller USA om det finns i grannlandet! :D

I just got a new "octopus" tripod for my phone. The old one was broken.
It's really handy for shooting videos.
This week I received a Tribute silk merlot, super sticky, and picked up from Terra Kendama a sweet pill in cranberry. They're almost the same color.

I like it a lot, but of course I've not played it - it will become the property of whoever wins the first Berlin Kendama Battle, which will happen as soon as we have enough solid players for such a tournament. Right now things aren't looking good.
The tama has a grip surface, which makes me wonder - how did Throkild compete with it during the World Championship? I mean, as it's freestyle, maybe there are different overall rules, but all those Lunars and so-forth, surely easier on a grippy than on a JKA approved ken?
The World Cup was a Gloken event, not a JKA one. There were no restrictions, other than size, on what kendama you could use.
Ah, thanks Void for the clarification. I feel like a chump by the way; no photo yet of the lovely new Tribute you guys sent me - hopefully someone has a camera today so I can get a photo, or better yet a nice tricklet with it. Watch this space...
I got a donation from Yoko Warburton for running kendama workshops and other events in Ireland.
I got my Loaded cliff from Krom. Since it is my Christmas present, I won't take it out of the box by now, but I'll post photos after Christmas.
I got two new Kendamas:
* The orange Play Pro is from Marc (of Kendama Europe). I got it after animating/consulting people at their booth at the Stuttgart Toy Fare. It fits my hoodie very well
* The metallic green Ozora Galaxy is a gift from Seiji Okamoto, owner of the famous Chariran-ya restaurant (the one in Osaka with the many runner's numbers in the window and the wall full of Kendamas - https://www.facebook.com/chari.ran.ya.100rakusou (https://www.facebook.com/chari.ran.ya.100rakusou)). Thank you Seiji-san, Kendama nights at your place are awesome.
As usual, I find them to beautiful to play with - got to get over this ...
I got the first of these a few days ago. I've been too ill to use any of them yet, unfortunately.
The second arrived today. Nice surprise - thank you Donald! :)

What's the small blue one? Looks nice!
The small blue one is from a chain shop of gifts (Tiger) I'm not sure it exists in other countries.
Apparently it is packed for them. It has a hole all the way through the sarado (Kendama USA-like) and... it is stringed for left handed! That being said, it is playable, I managed furiken, aeroplanes and even a lighthouse.
But my fav of the pack is the green Krom. Sticky as hell and very nice to play straight out of the package.

My new toys from Christmas. On the left is my OG Ozora from Outlink which I only opened until recently. In the middle is a walnut/maple sunrise and on the left is an m&m branded 'dama. The yo-yo is an un branded "retro" yo-yo which has a ridiculously long sleep time.
-Rob
My besty bought me these. Knees is going to open up a whole new world for me.
Just got the padauk prototype from Kendama USA!
I was honestly a little disappointed when I opened the package, the colour was dull and it looked almost like dirty/greasy beech, a brownish beige colour - but a string change and an hours worth of playing changed that! I don't know if the picture do it justice, but it immediatly started to change into a deep and rich caramel-like colour with a reddish hue!
It also got one of the most satisfying clacks I've heard so far, a very crisp and delicate sound.
I got just one quibble about it, and it is the sarado. It arrived strung for right-handed players, but seeing as how am a leftie (and hate white strings, since it turns grey within a matter of hours) I had to restring it - which proved an ordeal! The sarado is such a tight fit, that I hardly managed to get it past the spike! I had to wiggle it and hammer it with the tama, whilst simultaneously pulling the string to keep it taut. It stills sits a little high for my taste, but I assume it while settle further down when I play it more.
Be careful! Look what happened to Ben's when he tried to move his sarado.
Oh geez... Gonna stay careful then! Well, I kinda was already though, because the ken is MUCH thinner than pretty much everything else I've seen. At first I thought it was gonna snap from me just taking it out the box!
Anyone own an actual kaizen? Do they have the same issues?
I just got these 2 kendamas from Tiger.
They are very cheap, and I already had one of the small ones (the small green one will be the prize for KCC #31), but I wanted to try the normal size one to tell people if it is worth buying or not. So far is decent, it's not great but I don't think you can get better value for money. The string is quite terrible, but with a proper string it is a decent kendama, I did easily around europe, lighthouses and some earth turns and jumping sticks and it felt ok.
they do feel cheap, but you can't complain for 5 bucks :) Did yours come strung left handed? All the ones I bought did, and the way the pieces are forced together makes me wonder if it will ever be a kendama again if i take it apart to re-string em.
also are all tiny kendamas as unforgiving as those tiger ones? or is it just that it's sooo light and heap that it's impossible? Mine didn't come with a bead on the string, is that cos it's too dang small to get one on? I have been blaming my crappyness with it on the lack of a bead
And today I got the Play Pro K from KCC #30
Looking good.
nngh, i want a play pro k soooo much.
are they as amazing as i imagine them to be?
I've only played with it for about an hour. It feels almost identical to the Play from 2014 (which is one of my favorite kendamas). Good balance, good weight, paint is slippery, as expected on a new kendama.
Got a few packages plus my BKA membership. Yes!

Glad it all got there okay. Hope you're having fun with it (them)!
A somewhat belated Christmas present arrived today, two books (the third in the series was sold out), a krom holder, and a Krom Deluxe walnut/rubber wood.
Got these yesterday, managed to crack open the boxes today. Been a long wait! Excited to break 'em in....

@shalafi YES
oh i love getting a new kendama. that moment when you open the post, un-veil the dama box, and stare at it for a minute...
"ooh, i wonder if its perfectly weighted? should i sell this, or keep it? what if the grain is completely unique?"
now, i am super picky about my kendamas, so weighing them is literally the FIRST thing i do. the whole thing comes apart and i weigh each piece. from experience, grain theory has the best weights on any kendama ive ever seen. no, i dont work for them, its just something ive noticed. my scale that i use to weigh kendamas goes down to the hundreth of a gram (0.01) so i can be sure that the reading is decent/accurate.
for a stock/standard kendama, ozoras have always been ~2g difference between each piece, with quite a few "dead-ons".
GTs are hands down the best weighted kendamas and thats speaking from experience with -
kaleb
ozora
shenzu
zen
homegrown (maple stripes are better balanced but the paduak and purple heart are heavier than maple)
aTack
sourmash
super sticky
kaizen
play
musou
so, with all of those i hand weighed each and either cringed at the read-out or jumped for joy at the perfect match.
all that said, the tama weighting compared to the ken isnt nearly as important as the sarado weighting compared to the sword.
if the sarado weighting is 5g or more than the swords weight, it WILL make lunars extremely difficult. not so much light houses, but lunars on a ken with a lighter sarado than the sword will be painstaking. trying to "correct" the imbalance is an extra step that makes many variations far more difficult.
companies like ozora, and grain theory, would not be weighing each piece if it wasnt important. it seems like some kendama companies who put them together just grabbed a random sword, a random sarado, dug around for a tama and just slapped a string on and called it 'done'. which is ridiculous when comparing this to another skill-toy (YoYo) that has an even higher demand for weights.
but, yeah. for the money, i feel like grain theory provides the best bang for your buck. those dudes are not just slapping parts together and selling janky KDs.
i would group musous in the perfect weighting category, but from this forum ive heard people complaining about the weights.
mine weighs (72.7g tama 77.4g ken) BUT, the sarado weighting is 37g, so it jams lunars just fine
i apologize for putting this archival post where no one will see it. but hopefully someone will gleem some information from this. and no offense to any KD companies that dont weigh their products. its just something ive noticed
I just got a BKA hoodie. It is very cool. Actually no, it is quite warm :)
I got this red junior sized kendama in January from Takaharu Mikami of Kyobashi Kendama Club, Osaka (thanks again). It has funny proportions and I haven't tried it much. Of course it's lighter than others but seems to play quite well.
He said it was a TK16 Junior, but I think I misunderstood that. Can anybody decipher the writing on the package?
What it says is @LarsVegas
Top:
Hajimete no kendama (big writing in red i bet you can easily understand how to read kendama in japanese.
A kendama for starters;your first kendama
Black and White paper:
belwo kendama\
asobikata gaido
how you you use it;how you would play it
I dont see any tk16's anywhere but i might be wrong if i wrote something wrong anybody can correct me
Sorry i cant read what it says up in the top corner i can only read hiragana and katakana not kanji sorry.

@BKA and @Leologic777 - thanks for the info. Apart from Kendama, I couldn't read anything. And it's hard to search in the forum, if Japanese is all you have.
Lovely new TK16; and to think, the last one I bought, my very first kendama, turned out to be a Junior when I took it to the first kendama meet in Berlin! Talk about size matters...
I got a jumbo and a battlescar for my birthday. The more you play the battlescar the more the white will rub off revealing the red underneath, giving it a scarred look. The jumbo is way more fun than I thought it would be, so much easier to do tricks.
I brought these back from the IKO.
The mahogany Viking is really cool :)
Krom order arrived.
Krom XL Glow
Krom Standard Natty
Krom Rubberised Mini
Krom K-Pak Holster
Now all I need is my Stodd to get here!

The grain is sick right? Thanks dude.
This thing is HEAVY, it weighs in at 306g altogether. The barrel (tama) weighs 173g and the Ken weighs 133g.
For comparison my krom Viking mahogany weighs 235g, so yeah this things a tank.
@Peat Have you tried any spacewalks/suicides with it yet? :P You should do a review on it... because I am seriously considering getting myself one as well. :)
I'm really bad at spacewalks, so I haven't tried any yet. I've got mooncircles though and they feel pretty awesome.
I'll consider doing a review but I'll put some more time into this thing first.

I agree with you
@BenBenVx . IMO if you are going to spend 180 bucks on a kendama, then might as well play with it to get its values worth.
Because spending 180 dollars on an ornament piece is just uncivilized in my opinion. Then again, I don't mean to bash those who do buy these exotic kendamas for display I mean they do look so nice though. Just my 2 cents.
@thethreepostsabovemyone
I agree i woudn't spend that much money just to display something

damn. that grain on the sarado of the premium ozora and the keyaki is sexy! oh yeah i saw this on instagram too nice pickup!
This is what the Easter bunny brought me today. It's really great. I just tried it once before. Many tricks seem to be easier than with a Kendama, but of course I haven't explored all the possibilities yet. Tricks I landed so far are e.g.
Spike, of course
Swing in, also with one turn
Aeroplane
Earth turn, also with one, two, and three turns (if I counted correctly)
Reverse swing in, also with one turn
Lighthouse, or however you call it, when you catch the spiky part on the other one with the spike pointing upwards.
Downspike
It's a great addition to Kendama. Thanks to Krom for still offering pills at an affordable price. Some prices out there are just outrageous.
I managed to get hold of these two last week. #notforsale
@Void How do you just "manage" to get hold of those two?
I came across one on eBay last night for £383 plus £2.69 delivery (at least that was reasonable) ;D
I bought them back off someone I sold them to 7 years ago.

That's a great looking Kendama.
Hmm, I really need an Ozora.
Very good looking Ozora indeed. Is the ken stained or is it some kind of special wood?
I don't think it's stained, but I could be wrong. I have a stained sweets, and it feels nothing like it, so I'm leaning towards its a different wood.

Love the matte paint on the tama of that ooz. I'm not a fan of stained kens though.
Also I'm pretty sure they are stained, probably just through a different method or something.
Let us know how it plays!
Yeah, it's definitely stained. I'm not the best player, and my excuse is that I'm relatively new, but from my standpoint, it's great.

Bunch of things from kendama.cz. Trojka kendama and shredora tama, got some free strings for finding a bug on the websites new layout. Score!

Went to string this shredora tama onto my krom ken and found all my ozora strings were quite short on there as these are slightly bigger than ozora. That or i have yet to really jam it an mush the sarado down. Could hardly fit 2 fingers under basecup and i prefer 3 loose. Lucky enough these kenlab strings are huge! Happy to set this one up as i found my krom red oak tama a bit on the heavy side. After a friend pointed out the shredora tama was oak aswell it was instantly bought. Mirek was ace and weight matched the tama for me. After jamming with this i found the kenlab strings dont twist up like ozora do? Time to look if they do them in block colour or not
I got this one yesterday. Now I really don't need any more kendamas for a long time :-)

Ozora Sakura and Dragon Kendama Mahogany.
Was planning to just display them tbh, but I've got a bunch of people interested in buying them off me so why not.
Using the funds to get me either a Kaizen or Tribute that I'd actually play with.
The Dragon Kendama Mahogany looks very cool.
Keep that sakura! Beaut of a kendama.
Definitely sell that dragon though, friend of mine owns the exact same one and it's terrible, slippy paint, super short spike and all around weird feeling.
I've played some dragons that are good though, would just steer clear of those all over painted ones.
you sure you're talking about the same kendama?^
the one he got is made out of mahogany -those aren't painted are they?
@theobau Positive dude, mahogany is the name of the colour they use, these are made out of plywood!
www.kendama-world.com/dragon-kendama-stained-dark.html (http://www.kendama-world.com/dragon-kendama-stained-dark.html)
Correct. It's "mahogany", i.e. is not real and painted. I bought those 2 for personal display purposes, not for playing.
The Dragon Kendama just looked really nice and when I tried it, sure it has nice clacking sounds but damn yeh it's slippery.
I have a sale on the Sakura though.
This kid was being super eager to get his hands on it (cos he can't buy things online, being a kid and all) and I struck a deal with him.
He's happy to play, I'm happy it's being played = win-win.
It's cool though, I got me a Colin Sander off a local dealer and waiting on a Striped Zen from Kendama Co.
But bad thing is that I no longer have an Ozora.
I'm thinking of either a Premium White or a classic yellow, though I'm not sure where I'm gonna find the yellow. Thoughts?

@theobau Positive dude, mahogany is the name of the colour they use, these are made out of plywood!

oh ok, gotcha.

That's cool dude, spread the dama love.
Krom still have yellows in stock on their website, other than that I'm not sure, could try on here or the FKC?
Another NewNew has landed. My first ever Ozora!
Ordered it on Sunday, was shipped and delivered by Monday.
Brilliant service from Pete over at Kendama-World.

good one Ben, I got the same color at BKO, the premium finishing is great.
totally agree, the premium finishing is real real nice.. They are real nice straight out of the box. couldn't be happier
Yeah. A fresh striped zen.
That looks so clean.

I got these last week as a little high school graduation present for myself:
left to right: Krom Deluxe Red Oak w/5mm walnut stripe, Jake Wiens Pro Mod, Kaizen Cherry Silk White, Krom Viking Mahogany Emerald, Ozora Dragon
(http://i.imgur.com/ruYfFu3l.jpg)
Cherry Kaizen and Jake Wiens Moondama
(http://i.imgur.com/RV6qhD4l.jpg)
The Dragon (looks so much better than the picture shows)
Is it standard for the string to be coming out the bottom of the sarado looped like it is on the Red Oak? (It's like this on the Dragon and the Viking too). I've never seen the string strung like that in any pictures so I thought I'd ask (also is there a way to get it to not come out like that?).
One more picture of the Krom Red Oak, the wood changes color depending on where you hold it in the light, which is a really neat effect. I'm not sure if this is the Krom Deluxe Hors' (http://kromkendama.com/products/krom-deluxe-rodeg-m-valnod-stribe?locale=English&locale=English) (Red Oak in the V3 shape) or the older regular Red Oak.
I will more in depth reviews of these once I've played them for a few months, but here's my initial impressions:
Cherry Kaizen: Heavier and super durable, the spike hasn't worn down at all and I haven't even glued it (only a few hours of play on it though). The tama is probably a bit heavier than the ken, but the paint is super durable and super sticky. Really nice kendama.
Ozora Dragon: So pretty! I almost don't even want to play it!
Krom Red Oak: This one plays really nice and the walnut stripe is good for tracking. The grain is insane and the string can kind of "stick" to the ken in places. The spike is also super durable on this one.
Jake Wiens Pro Mod: Really nice, beech, and with cool space engravings and the same paint on the tama that the cherry kaizen has.
Krom Viking Mahogany: This is super light, the ken itself almost feels lighter than the Cherry Kaizen's ken, even though it's bigger. The mahogany wood makes a really "loud" sound. I don't know how else to describe it, but it's a louder sound than the other kendamas. The emerald paint is gorgeous too, but there's already a small chip in the paint from trying double orbits on it :I
Quick cool story: So I promised my mom I'd save one in the box to open it on graduation (saved the Wiens Pro mod). After graduation (happiest day of my life so far probably :) ) we went out to eat at this Japanese Hibachi steakhouse place where the chefs cook in front of you (and provide some entertainment). I opened the kendama there and one of the kids working (most of the staff is from Japan) noticed it and said "Hey it's a kendama!" I let him try it, he missed a few times and then had to spin the ball to get it on the spike! I then proceeded to get lighthouse on the second try with it lol. I asked him if kendamas really are everywhere in Japan and he said "Yeah, in the schools too." It was a neat little experience :).
Congratulations on your graduation.
To answer your question about the string loop below the sara-do: Yes, that's perfectly normal. Or at least it was until some models started adding recesses to the ken shaft's string hole.

Thank you! :D
I figured the string loop thing is a normal thing, it just surprised me 'cause I had never seen it before (all I had before this were 4 sweets kendamas and they all have the little recesses). It's kind of annoying, but I'm sure I'll get over it. :P
Congrats on your graduation!
Nice set of kendamas!

Nice Logan! I've been thinking of getting one since they aren't sold out yet... Is it really worth the $130 though? I mean I just got a bunch of new kendamas, but it's a Mugen, and it's the first color they've had since Amethyst that I reallllyy like.
I think it's worth every penny, it's super sticky and has the perfect weight (my opinion) and feels extremely nice.

Happy Fathers day!
2014 Play Kendama. Slippery fellow, haven't managed a convincing lighthouse yet :-[
Also the sarado seems quite high compared to my TK16, shinfuji and Royal Kendama by about 4mm. Does anyone know if this is the norm?
I'd guess your other three have "sunk in" through use. Common occurence.
Cheers Void, I will Play ::) it more! Maybe the consistency challenge.
Latest addition. Dealwithitsf 'world champion' ozora.
Painted by sourmash so it's pretty sticky, looks amazing too.(http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/24/5dbf0d948947c52937ff2d93cdec0655.jpg)

@Peat looking very nice indeed.
I've discovered that I really like playing with an Ozora so...

Only thing is that I find the sarado tends to get loose really fast, so that post-it trick came in handy, if you squint at the mint.
Btw, Roots paint is crazy sticky. D:
Excellent photo.

Which one is the GT16? Is it a new Japanese brand?
Made by Gentosha, same company who make the pink seal jnr "My First Kendama". I've not seen this competition-size model from them before. Don't know if it's an exclusive run only for the 40th anniversary, or if they'll be going into production.
But the seal's exclusive, that's for sure. I believe only 300 were issued per company.
What a nice birthday present from my best friend!
It's hard to tell, but the grain on this guy is crazy.
Two friends went to Japan on their honeymoon, and I made them a guide to "collectible kendamas". They found this in a coffeeshop in Hiroshima:
https://instagram.com/p/8D4COehvLX/?taken-by=kendamabelgium
They bought it for around 7 euros :) It's actually still in pretty good shape and plays amazing! So I know have a Mugen 'collection' with the yellow and the dark blue that I had before.
Very nice,
@HansNickmans ! A lucky find.
So, will you take €10 for it? ;)
Not really. I couldn't sell a souvenir now could I?
@HansNickmans That kendama looks like its been loved just the right amount.
Loving my Alex Smith probably mod!
@AlexSmith :) only complaint is that the paint gets puffy at some points because it didn't adhere to the primer. Maybe this issue will be solved with the new pro models. :D
Glad to hear you're liking the pro mod! I have a couple in the high 60 gram range I've been jamming a fair bit lately. I hope the paint doesn't get much worse, but at the same time I also hope you beat the hell out of it! ;)
@HansNickmans great find! I was once rewarded by a friend who told me his family had an old kendama from his childhood, turned out it was a sakura blossom seal! Traded him some things for it, I was stoked!
Newest additions I've been jamming:

Hey folks, just wanted some options on spike gluing. My super awesome-o partner got me some of that tasty homegrown goodness. The padauk striped one, mmmm...
What do folks feel about gluing. I've not had a dama that I haven't glued but I haven't been playing that long and I've appreciated a durable spike. Should I wear it in or glue it for protection? Hmmm... I have another dama that I'm considering jamming without glue so I'll get to experience that but, I want to make the right decision with my first homegrown.
Help me buddies! Xx
Hey
@Kingi , check out this thread, lots of talk about gluing there --> http://www.kendama.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,920.0.html (http://www.kendama.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,920.0.html)
That GT Huntsman is soooooo pretty ;_; also the OG Mugen for 7 euros? That's insane!
This lovely natural Royal came through the door today. Feels suprisingly grippy straight out of the packet. May have to jam this one a fair bit to get the flavour of it. :-D https://twitter.com/thevoidtlmb/status/659374264374661120

For those of you interested in wood, I took some samples of European species wood to a local guy we knew had a collection. He arranged for a colleague of his to give me some samples back. This is a piece of Calocedrus formosana or Taiwan incense cedar. Probably driftwood since they try to work with it more than having to cut down trees. Heavier than water and with a strong camphor smell.
I would love to see a kendama made from this type of wood.

there are 4 different types of wood working together with the modular series.
each one is lunar balanced and, honestly, the best weighted kendama ive ever seen.
as in, ive Never had a kendama this perfectly weighted. hands down, my favorite kendama at the moment.
this game is all about balance and this kendama is just that, BALANCED, from head to toe!
@PikWik Sorely tempted by your lunar balanced maple Ken only. Very reasonable even with shipping. But as I mentioned in another thread "the wife" ::)
Got a bobber a month ago. This thing slays! Now I'm waiting on a mape x cherry from GT. ;D
Premium gold ozora! Gotta love an ozora or seven ;D
I got lucky, and got this for my collection. Not for sale.
Got lucky as in made a good deal? Or found it on some dusty shelf from a long forgotten cupboard?
I told someone that it was one I wanted for my collection and offered to buy it. He said I could have it, as he appreciated my kendama efforts. I was rather surprised and grateful. Then he asked how much I would have paid, and I told him. He still let me have it. Thanks Steve, very kind! Won't be selling this one, ever. I don't sell gifts.
The photo has the good side of the ball, it's a little bit beat up & stained on the other side. But I don't care, I finally have a red on the shelf. :)
*unpacks suitcase*
Oh yeah, and this little bunch. {Swaps the tama over}
That pink string? Special. Might let you try it at BKO.
These from IKO. Thanks sponsors!
I'll put the rack up in my hallway. I'll probably sell the performer, as I have enough of those.
I got a new red Royal to replace my current one as everyday Kendama, since the old one was starting to be fairly used after a year a jamming.
BTW: When I opened it, I said that the tama was heavier. It is a 76 ken / 80 tama, while the old one is 74 ken / 76 tama. I guess the hours of practice had made notice these sort of details :)

The Play grip and green Royal I won and the natty Royal and F3 I purchased.
The F3 has been decorated (using sharpies and cheap Wilko lacquer(slippery stuff)) since, and I am currently beating it about to get it nice a "prime" I think the word is!
As a note both the Royals were best set up straight out the box. Sarados on both were closer to where I like them (but exactly the same height on each). Weight wise (getting a bit anal about this), after I swapped the tamas between the two the natty is within 2grams in favor of tama and the green 5-6 grams but the heavier of the two in the late 70s and the natty early 70s.
I am very much looking forward to jamming the natty in the not too distant future!
I also have a "Girr Token Zen" on the way! But then I must really stop buying kendamas for a while ::)
Just copped an absolute gem

As for how it plays, the bird grip is the best out of all my kendamas :)
The feel of the keyaki is very satisfying!
And the weights of the ken/tama are within about 5 grams ;D (*75 tama/*70 ken) *I only have a balance scale at the moment, so take with a grain of salt.
Here is my opinion on it, on scales of 1-10. Disclaimer: My skill level with kendama is approximately at the 1 kyu level (Not official).
Spikes: 9.5
Balance tricks: 6.5 (Rather slippery out of the box, but not TOO slippery.
Stalls: 10
Cups: 9
Overall: 9.75 or 10
Oh yeah it also smells good! I can't explain the smell, but it is rather strong. I can only say that it smells a little bit like an orange, and expensive furniture?
I do love this kendama, and can't wait to break it in!
I would gladly pay $35 for it!

I've been a very lucky boy indeed lately in terms of acquiring Kendamas.
After his visit to Japan, Kentaro Arai, our trusty Kendama Berlin buddy and friend, has become a kind of 'European ambassador' for Gloken, bringing each team member a suitable Mugen Musou back in his case for a fraction of the retail price. As I'm known for favouring nattys most of the time I got the Keyaki Mugen (centre), and though I've been very careful about playing it so far, it's an absolute thrill.
Next up, at the Berlin Karneval der Kulturen, where we had a kendama stand with Rolf Ganer, Theo and Ben Mastek, I was given a Troika Fire by our friend Martin (Marvel) to test out and show some tricks at the event, and also won a KROM Rubber Solid from the KROMies on a simple Spike-off.
To complete the picture though, this weekend took the biscuit where I came 3rd (third!) in the Hannover KEN BATTLE overall after tying with Ole on 50 points and winning the knock-out round for the final position, and with the pleasure earned myself this beautiful KROM Deluxe Walnut (left). After that, to my continued surprise, I was the last man standing in the madcap, absolutely packed round of Unicorn, bagging this sweet KROM x Mimoe (right).
So like I say I'm feeling very very humble right now kendama-wise.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check them out. My gold ozora I'm finding strange. The ken isn't as balanced as I would expect, the Keyaki is great though, as is the pill, love the cherry wood.
@johndmc perhaps the sarado needs working down a little bit, if the spike also looks short. This should then help the balance of it.
How is the girr zen token? Have you played with it yet?
@Blackhawkfan I've not really played with it yet apart from a few around the world combos, lighthouse and lunars which all went smoothly. I already have a striped zen so know about the ken shape and feel which I really like. From my quick play with it before re boxing I felt it had better balance than my stripe so am looking forward to more play in the future (The keyaki Oz has my full attention at the moment).
Regard Girr paint apart from looking stunning, out the box it probably a bit more grip than a regular ozora. Grip not tack. I hear that the Girrs break in very nicely to.
@Maicodama has a few I believe and may chime in with his thoughts.

I believe they made a short run to check them out, this one was one of the samples, similar thing with the tama. Both very rare / pre-production :-)
Over the past week, I got a 7 kendama haul from Craigslist and a thrift store :)
I got 2 different deals, 2 kens for $10, and 5 kens for $25, and 1 kendama from a thrift store.
These are in order in which I got them, left to right:
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/dQTecSOim97D9Opp0bR-FN-7bkRxu-J6KEAuJ8oITg0QJb3czRxfsKQYw9nZ6OFaSHQwnJFLTcy29_Bz9QoR3DMcdXI67ET1X0Fxi5k6TeIPCSIh2cN83EB5vRpH5rUG60oXqqDFC-EExutdXjMuEqTJK9DyjVKD7tnwLGS8GWceDTGOQhCvM_KA1T4ZzDU-a_527pZY9hC9k0s7q309RYEeyxvamhxskGIE1a_CgxyyPsK7WkooVAr6izNcv3K94YiaqHrY1Aj5q0aZLFX6tSjPi_Oq61lN_CZwdJv8RPGtgueVRXahk4L2UUHy0gqlwj8NW7CJ7IgwUH_4qJrY9W1ZGc11qIEy6NclnACrEFycqnwymq-z2qtnStHB7KEwyRC52ctc2w53qySOlZgf5MD54HZfJuURnscHTssxkXlPD47PXMuLTw-bpvbnTSwwIgt83KSku5sXk2mcH3k6Ym4mD2tdIoYh6AX9J8DmEl3xS6nd2VBlsuRkIgC3wNLXri7rbJ7DjyZ417QPwI94JYVF54Qt0xzsWQo6rd06ECmHVCnxGhSg8pmysoJ8UBC83wS92CH0eBCqC1HK3myDV2rBD_zdm6k=w737-h921-no)
(Deal 1, $10 for both): Sweets marble, Sweets biggie!!!
(Thrift store): Unknown brand red birch (I think it's birch), $2
(Deal 2, $25 for all 4) Possibly sweets Homegrown spectra (It said sweets spectra on the listing) with a maroon tama, Sweets blue/green/yellow Chameleon, Red Ozora, Sweets marble.
Something to note about the unknown brand ken; the bottom cup is VERY flat, and the tama/ken can spin on it freely. This makes lighthouses very hard. :(
If anyone knows what brand this is, or if I can fix the flat bottom cup, please tell. I did drill a very shallow hole in the cup, which fixed it a little bit.

Just bought a couple of play kendama. Really impressed with them. The monster grip is loads of fun.
Nice pair, John.
I got this translucent green Ozora recently. It was issued to coincide with the Fujiwara Cup this year. There was a separate yellow one for entrants only.
Nice
@The Void is that tacky like a premium or more regular ozora like?
Definitely Premium-y, KenSan.
I got "a few" Kendama co ones from their closing sale.

The Zens are for workshops. The other three are ash, keyaki and beech shenzus.
Do you know how to identify them? They have different color beads, but no sign on the package. The ash one is easy, the keyaki is harder

I quickly tried one Zen, felt very good, but that was just a quick taste. Haven't played with the Shenzus yet.
I picked up an white aqua stripe zen, a natty zen (curently getting the Kayadama treatment) and a natty Shenzuh simply because I had never had or played one before either(and this appears to be the last chance to do so).
The Shenzuh looks very similar to a Royal kendama especially slip ring and base ring wise and plays similar too. It isnt quite as well finished as the Royal IMO but is a nice kendama for sure.
I put some tracking stripes around the hole and had a little jam with it, but I decided to give it to my 7 year old who has suddenly got back into playing kendama :D (probably because we hid his 3DS as his ears had stoped functioning whenever he was on it!)

You're welcome. And good! :)

Some Christmas acquisitions:
A fabled yellow ozora, maple ozora (which everyone should own) RWB with KUSA silk tama and a Kaizen half spilit!

Ha cheers
@fiddletriks I couldn't resist the yellow Oz when kenCo put them up on their site. The maple oz plays like a dream and the silk painted tamas on the RWB and kaizen are quite playable too.

Last Sunday was my birthday, and I got this Tribute - and I love it! I'm probably going to do a review once I've played it more.
Got these in the post today. They'll do.
@The Void That mugen ken has a lovely tan. Very nice.
That reminds me I had a little play on
@BenPycroft24 wine red mugen at BKO. Ha ha yank dama :o It was a nice kendama for sure but I would take an Ozora any day of the week.
That gold mugen looks beautiful
@The Void @KenSan it's a beauty to play for sure. Markus landed a first t yank on it as well haha!
Cheers. I may give it a little click today, now I've finished setting up this festival, and I'm officially on holiday. :-)
@The Void Hi, how do I add a picture into the new gear section? I clicked on additional items and tried to add a photo but it always says it's to large....
Thanks Marc
@Sowdz Hey Marc,
There's a 500KB limit on attachments, so you'd have to shrink it first. Or use Twitter, or IG to put the pic online, then just copy and paste the Share URL link into a forum post.
(There's a thread about this with more detail in the Technical Questions section. )
@The Void thanks mate! Looking into now!!! 2 1/2 wks in now... We got the bird landed....my best combo at mo is swing in spike, around Europe followed by 2xearth turn. We both practice on our lunch break break...
Thanks buddy
Just received my ozora.. Will use this heavily and prob use it for a grading later in the year....

Cheers. "Only" 3, plus an Ozora special edition and a Su Lab. I gave away my old beech beauty Royal, so thought I'd better get a new one in.
Got a production run SuperNatural in today. You can see in the pic how the proto has coloured-up with some months of use. (Actually, it's more noticeable in the flesh.)

I was given this as a gift. Made by a friend of Su's. Not just printed or painted, but actually incised grooves, then painted in. It's really nice. I haven't put it on a ken yet... Might have to stay as a shelfie.
