Inward Stilts

How should I hold the tama for inward stilts, my fingers always seem to touch the spike and then I move my fingers down the tama but that makes it harder to land the tricks im trying because I dont have a good grip on the tama. Any suggestions, or just tell me how you hold the tama when doing inward stilts?

Maybe this tutorial will help you...you should be able to see the position of his fingers midways in the vid..
