So this summer a friend and I decided to start up a little kendama company. We decided to try something no other company has by handmaking kens out of beautiful and exotic woods. From start to finish our kens are made one by one, completely by hand. Our tamas are machine made to ensure high accuracy (unless otherwise stated), then painted with high quality paints. We also are going to be selling a new juggling toy I came up with, called The Pill.
We are busy putting the finishing touches on our first line of kens and pills, we expect to have them online and for sale by the end of September. In the meantime I invite you to check out our facebook page, which has some teaser photos, reviews by people who are lucky enough to own one already and some other fun stuff.

I present you Terra Kendamas

Feel free to ask questions, I will answer as best I can.

The Void

That purple wood one is very nice.
If you don't want to BUY MY BOOKS 😉, then why not ask your local library to order them in, and read them for free? That would help too. Cheers!

AlexSmith

Thanks! Its a wood called purpleheart from South America. We will have some all purpleheart kens for sale soon, they have been quite popular so we made a bunch of them.

Thorny

We need to talk again, Alex. :)
Great to see people are loving what you're doing!

John

Those badboys look delightful, hope I can pick one up. Good job, Alex.

hater

I want a terra kendama+pill, maybe for christmas :D

AlexSmith

Thanks for the kind words guys! I've been crazy busy lately, but we're going to try and have a few kens and some more pills in stock in time for christmas.

In the meantime, take a peek at this photo. We've been playing with some new woods and designs.

'Ken Porn' as one guy on Facebook put it haha.

Thorny

Getting quite excited now I know that money is currently transferring accounts!
Thanks in advance, Alex hahaa.

Also... Alex Ruisch, how did you make the Terra seals? They have taken my interest haha.

KendAlex

Thorny, i made the seal for Alex Smith because his products earn some nice seals, but he is bussy to work on his own seals or logo's.
So you better wait till he is ready with his seal and maybe he will send you some after.

the seals on my Pills and kendama, are the same sticker seals i use for my own KendAlex Kendamas like the plastic and the metal ones.

     Terra Kendamas!
This company is Canadian, i think. They are supposedly the top tier kendama option. Has anyone been able to get their hands on one of these things, how does it play? Which one is the best?

I guess the purpleheart kendama is their staple..

Terra is indeed a Canadian company!
As for which is 'best', I think this would be a tough question to answer. If we've learned one thing, its that some woods will feel/play very different from others. To take examples from the alpha series kens that I've had the opportunity to play a fair bit with, purpleheart has a heavy, solid feel, while padauk is 'glassier', while still being heavier than beechwood. 'Best' becomes a matter of opinion I suppose.
We're going to be continuing to explore any and all exotic and rare woods we can get our hands on, and will have some new stuff launching in a few weeks (once we're back from Seattle). Zebrano is awesome, and we've been messing around with woods like bubinga, mahogany, cocobolo and ebony as well lately. I'll try and post some photos up here sometime soon, lots of exciting stuff to show off!
