Having failed to find a suitable venue[nb]that would bother replying to emails[/nb] north of the border, it looks like we're heading back to Chocfest (http://chocfest.net) in York in January. I'm awaiting confirmation from them, but I'm pretty sure they'll be They are happy to host us again.
Full comp details are at http://www.kendama.co.uk/nrc2013.html (http://www.kendama.co.uk/nrc2013.html)
Cash prizes sponsored by BKA. Additional prizes from Mr Yano of the World Kendama Championships.
Paging Grimsby, paging Grimsby, we expect you to double your turnout from last year! :D
We shall try our best to get more people to come down! It's likely we'll be able to convince another three of us! :D
Good to hear!
All now confirmed for York.

Quick question about my usable/or maybe not to usable Kendamas at the NRC?
is a Kawasaki TK16 allowed? Just wondered with the paint being for crotch rockets and all :)
Hi Adam,
Welcome to the forum.
Although the TK16 is a BKA-approved kendama, I think the custom paint job would have to count as it being modified, so unfortunately for you, it's not allowed. We do have the rule that competitors have to own their own kendama, but I think in this case you would probably be allowed to borrow a kendama from a friend (or us) to compete with. After all, we want to be *in*clusive, not exclusive.
Cheers.
That's fine :)
By the time of the NRC I'll have some new ones, at least now I have time to get some and think about whether they'll be allowed before it was too late to do so.
I need to stop buying slightly 'fancy' Kendamas if you will...
I currently have a White rabbit Oozora, blue Rakurosen, Kawasaki TK and a sealless Mugen :')
Not a good collection as far as competing goes. ahaa
Nice investments tho'.
But yeah, get something "just to play"!
Oozoras definitely going on the Christmas list!
Maybe a Shin Fuji and a TK or two as well.
I want it to be January.
We just added this specification to the rules:
QuoteFor all tricks, no adjustment may be made to the grip during the trick (unless this is a specific requirement of the trick).
Was wandering abt the 'around the world' part of the ladders does have to be little cup, big cup, etc or can you start from big cup if ya want?
Big Cup first is okay if you prefer.
Nice one thanks :)

Big Cup first is okay if you prefer.
Quite surprised to see you say that!
Sid you cop-out, all 'Around The' tricks begin with small cup, change your bad habits! :P
Announcing... Cash prizes sponsored by BKA. Additional prizes from Mr Yano of the World Kendama Championships.
BKA will also be trading.
Is anyone able to tell me what some of the previous winners of 'best trick' category did in order to win... It'd be nice to know then I can try and figure out the kind of thing I'll be planning on doing :)
Head here and look at Past Events.
http://www.kendama.co.uk/competition.html (http://www.kendama.co.uk/competition.html)
Most of the BKA/EKO ones will have results pages, some with the Best Tricks named. But in general think
A) Crowd Pleasers
B) Technical
C) Ones you can HIT under pressure.
A balance of A, B and C should hit the right note.
Sweet!!
Thanks man... So looking forward to this! :)
Haha I no mate but haven't done around the world in a while so its hard to break said habit but it'll fine either way :p lol
If a trick is missed in the intermediate ladder is the ladder restarted or is the trick repeated until successful? (if this has been brought up before please forgive my ignorance I've never competed before)
Repeat until succesful. You can't complete the ladder without having done all the tricks, in order. So just keep going until you get a trick, then carry on.
I see :) thank you
Less than a month to go, folks! Get your practice heads on!
There is usually free tea & coffe at Chocfest.... So bring a mug!
There will be chocolate cake a-plenty to eat in the interval of the evening show.
For anyone entering Intermediate, here's a tip: Memorise the list! It will save you precious seconds if you don't have to pause to read the list between tricks.
For everyone entering: please make sure you've read all the rules, and trick specifications (watch the videos again!). If you do a trick wrongly[nb]We don't mean "missing", we mean "using a disallowed technique".[/nb] on the day, it will only be your fault!

Don't forget to take your opportunity to get graded too[nb]Take every opportunity you get! Sadly, it's all too easy for a little slip-up to leave you lower than you'd hoped.[/nb]. Come early, or stay after the comp to get a grading. You'll get a certificate, get listed on the register, and possibly qualify to take part in the Dan Jam. And if you are planning to get graded.... Practise Moshi Kame! It trips everyone up the first time.....
Click click, looking forwards to seeing you all!
Announcing a new prize....
THE BOUNTY!
As well as other prizes for division winners and placers, we have decided to offer a bonus prize of £10 to anyone in the Advanced division who knocks out the reigning NRC Champion. So, Matt Nix, beware! :)
(Advance division draw will be at random, so everyone will have an equal chance of having a go at the champ!)
...Urk, just realised Matt hasn't yet said that he's coming! Hope this doesn't put him off!
Edit: "Matt Nix is going to NRC". Come on you hunters!
So no-one's excited by this then?
If no-one claims the Bounty, then it goes to Matt (in addition to any other prize he may have therefore won).
Have a great time tomorrow. I really enjoyed taking part last year. Sadly a number of family commitments are keeping me in Norfolk this time.
Chris

Looks/sounds like great fun. Hope tuere will ben an event like this in holland to some time. If not i come to the uk bect year if i'm allowed? :D. Really want a grade hehe!
I can't help but notice the men/women ratio. What is it that almost only nerdy guys (count me in) play Kendama in Europe? Looking at some top female players, I don't see why it attracts so few women ...
Pollyanna and Chloë also joined in on a couple of the early games, but didn't enter the main competition.
I've seen similar discussions in the juggling world about this, and the one thing I can say for certain is: If you start trying to explain it, you end up sounding like a right pillock!

Sorry, Cliff, we only just noticed your post. Yes, non-Brits are allowed to enter BKA competitions. You would be very welcome!
