I am new to the hobby and I have a question. Is there any reason to replace the string on a kendama other than if it has a knot or if it snaps?

BKA

Aesthetic: You might want a different colour.
Dirt: When a string is very old, your hand grease can make it very dirty. This may perhaps add stiffness, so you might want a newer, more flexible one.
Frayed: Replace it before it snaps!

Otherwise, not really. Strings last a good long time if you're nice to them.
