I guess you know Xopo, the Spanish Kendama player. He's also quite a speed cuber. He made this video a while ago:

I taught myself to cube in '80 or '81. Bought a cube and worked it out for myself. Later on, I worked out the 4x4 and the 5x5 for myself too. I consider the Rubik's cube to be a puzzle, and that to use anyone else's method is cheating.

I realise that I am almost entirely alone in this viewpoint! :)

My fastest time for a 3x3 was an unimpressive mid-40s seconds for decades, until my friend Tom lubed my cube for me (that's probably cheating too ;) ) , and then I got it down to sub-30. No idea what my best 4x4 time is, but my average 5x5 time is... somewhere around 20 minutes!
If you don't want to BUY MY BOOKS 😉, then why not ask your local library to order them in, and read them for free? That would help too. Cheers!

What a cool video ! Speed cubing is also one of my hobbies  :D Congrats Void, getting a sub 30 with your own method is really impressive ! As for me, I use a corner's first method, with an average 3x3 time around 0:30 (4x4 ~ 2:00, 5x5 ~ 3:30 and best 3x3 Blindfolded in 2:35).

I've always been too lazy to go for the extra effort of the speed cubing. I solve the normal one, but very relaxed.
