FKO - Finnish Kendama Open

I just finished translating rules so I'm happy to let you know that we will be organizing Finnish Kendama Open as part of Finnish Diabolo and Yoyo nationals. I have been carrying national champ title for 3 years now (as being only person from Finland taking part to European Kendama Opens) it's about time to pass on the title. ;)

Set of rules can be found from here: http://www.yoyo.fi  <- Under the "kilpailut" there's "Kendama".
We will be using same set of rules as BKA used back in 2008 so if our northern language looks really weird you can just check out the rules from here http://kendama.co.uk/competition2008.html Contest is open for everybody however our level is not that high yet but I hope things will start to grow now!

Contest will be held 10th July 2013 in Joensuu Finland. Location is the big stage on the city market square. We will be playing outside under the eyes of people. The whole event will be part of culture event called "Popkatu" (http://popkatu.fi/en/)

More info of the event:

I'm so sorry for the language. We don't have much translated but if you have any questions just ask me.

Great stuff, Marko. Here starts the kendama invasion of Finland. One by one the countries fall.... :D

Oops!  Just noticed this ....  I can heartily recommend a trip to Finland to play with toys, and it's great that they're running a kendama open this year (the skill levels for yo-yo and diabolo are always top notch!)

Oh, and if Marko offers you a game of  "ken-dashboard", just say no, ok? :)

I got my first kendama in Joensuu :-) Great memories.

Oh man! Still haven't been able to spike it properly in ken-dashboard! It's a bummer that my current set-up is not so good for the play...

shalafi, how come you got your first kendama in Joensuu?

Marko, that is an easy question: EJC 2010 :-)

Oh shoot. I forgot that completely! Of course. :D Apart from festivals Joensuu seems quite difficult place to find Kendamas. ;)

So it's 10th of July. Yesterday we did quite many sports. Today we will do the rest. The schedule is (GMT +2):

11:00-13:00 Yoyo (1A & 3A) and Kendama.

14:00-16:00 Diabolo divisions, Loop, 2D, 3D.

On thursday we will do a show on stage which is about 13:00. Also the show will be streamed, that's where all the best will show the tricks people might have missed. I'll be off to contest stage now since everything will start again in one hour.
If you don't want to BUY MY BOOKS 😉, then why not ask your local library to order them in, and read them for free? That would help too. Cheers!

Finnish Kendama open is over now! Thank you for supporting us!

Here's the top 3:
1st Spencer Berry
2nd Aaro Kontio
3rd Marko Akkanen

So this means thta FKO Champion is Spencer Berry from United States. As he is not from Finland the title "Finnish Kendama Champion" goes for Aaro Kontio.

Here are the score lists:

As you can see only one of the competitors was able to qualify the beginner list. I think we all need a lot more practice. I hope this contest will create more interest and that we will see better players the next year.

Thanks for the news, Marko, and for organising the event! Well done on your 3rd place, and congrats too to Spenser and Aaro.
