Hello Chris,
Welcome to the forum!
Absolutely you should enter! The more, the merrier. You'll have fun, I'm sure, and you might just surprise yourself. And of course, there's still about 3 weeks for you to practice.
See you at Chocfest!

Greetings,

I have been lurking for a little while and thought I would go ahead and introduce myself.  My name is Alan, I am 46 years old and live near Atlanta, GA USA.  I got my first Kendama in 1995 as I was leaving the hotel after the IJA juggling festival.  A guy from Hawaii had made them and sold me one for $10 so he wouldn't have to carry it home.  It turned out it did not play very well--the cups were not deep enough, the spike too long etc.--and it did not get much use.   A few years later at the IJA fest I bought another one that had a beautiful dark wood stain and the cups felt like they had a vacuum attached.  After that I was somewhat hooked, but still only played with it occasionally.  Several more years later I got my first JKA approved model--TK16 Master and after a short adjustment period was completely hooked.  We began having kendama circles form in the gym at juggling festivals on a regular basis and Matt Hall and others began leading workshops at the IJA.  About four or five years ago the leader of the beginners workshop asked me why I was there since I was not a beginner.  I told him that my right hand was a beginner and began my efforts to use both hands with the kendama.  That style has served me well as I won the Best Trick contest at the first two North American Kendama Opens.  I can't compete with all of the YouTube generation kids, who are younger than some of the kendamas I own, and learned more tricks than I can do in their first 6 months; but it felt good to break out the two kendamas at once and have a circle form around me while just doing basic tricks.  I have been obsessed with the Biro flip, or "pendama" as one of my Atlanta Jugglers Association friends called it, for the last several weeks and twice last night at juggling I hit it with one hand, then passed it to the other and hit it again.  When I work up to the simultaneous flip (hopefully soon) I'll try to get it on video.

Hello Alan,

Good to have you on board! We hear GA is swarming with little talented kendama tykes, you must be so proud! ;)
2-handed work is cool, and very few people bother with it much, so it's nice to hear of someone who's pushing it along.
Cheers!

steffibearpaw

Hello everybody,
i´m Stefanie a.k.a steffibearpaw, 41, from Stuttgart /Germany and i got in touch with Kendama and Juggling for the first time in October 2011 when i saw an edit of Pavel from Rome/ Italy. I got immediately infected :D with Kendama and my children ( 6 and 9 years old) too. I am glad to meet other players here and learning and having fun with them and exchanging some tricks. I apologise my English that i´m not used to speak it every day, be patient with me *smile*... so if someone wants to send me some pm i would be glad to receive them in german or italian.
Thanks to Peter from Munich inviting me to the forum  :)

looking forward to meet you

Stefanie

Hi Stefanie, (and kids!)
Welcome aboard!
Don't worry, your English is fine. Your video shows that you certainly have fun with kendama, and that's what it's all about.

Hi guys.
My name is David Gault, I'm from France (more precisely from Reunion island witch is a small island lost in the Indian ocean), and i'm playing kendama for about 4 mounths.
I discovered kendama when one of my friends came to my house with that strange skill toy. I'd never seen that before but i like games based on concentration and accuracy so i decided to try hit a few minutes. Like many of us i was immediately addicted ;D
So kendama quickly became my new passion and since that day i try to plays a little every day.
You can check my first Edit here:
[Mod Edit: Check the video in its thread here: http://www.kendama.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,341.0.html ]

Otherwise i want let you know that i'm also a (talented?) freeborder. Freebording is an innovative sport that allows to ride on pavement like on the snow. IT'S JUST LIKE SNOWBOARDING THE STREETS!
I recently was nominated for the Freebord Best Submitting Video Contest so if you want to learn more about freebord, check this out:

And sorry for my bad english, I'll try to improve it ;)

Hi David,
Welcome to the forum!
Wow, people get good really fast now.

I used to snowboard, and I did a little Mountain boarding. I think I tried a freeboard just once (but on the flat) - it was strange to get used to. But your video makes me want to try it again (with pads)!

Cheers,
Void

PS Your English is fine!
If you don't want to BUY MY BOOKS 😉, then why not ask your local library to order them in, and read them for free? That would help too. Cheers!

My name is Dan. I live in Leeds and have ridiculous hair. I used to love to hate Kendama. However, I recently acquired one.

It's fun! Even though I'm not very good...

Nice to meet you xxxx

I used to love to hate Kendama.

I'm glad you're on here now, Mekky!

I'm also glad you've finally been converted to the greatness that is kendama! Keep practicing mate!

(For everyone else's information, to prevent confusion, Dan used to live in Grimsby.  :P)

Welcome to the forum Dan. Glad to have you in the clicking clan!

Big up Grimsby!

I find the clicking very therapeutic, it's probably my favourite noise in the world :)

Well I got my first kendama around two years ago, but didn't really start playing until june of 2011.  It was an old sky blue oozora that is still one of my best damas to date.  I'm from Virginia Beach, Virginia in the United States and I am 16 years old.  I thought kendamas were kind of dumb at first, so I never really played with it, only tried to get the cups and was dumbfounded by how my friends could get spike.  When all of my friends were still in school at the beginning of the summer, I played a lot of dama with my lil sis.  She taught me a lot, and I progressed really fast to catch up with my friends.  Kendama is all my friends and I did over the summer.  We've come a long way since our first 757 edit, but I'd like to think we're pretty decent dama players.
