so ladies and gentlemen this will be a thread solely for the purpose of boasting who can do the most of what. i'll try and keep on top of it but i will modify this first post whenever a new record is set.
rules: (otherwise this could get silly)
-each record will be set for the repetition of ONE trick. so no made up combos. By one trick i mean you have to hold the ken/tama and perform said trick, then
without readjusting complete the same trick again and again and again. (
Edit: The "without readjusting" part isn't possible for some tricks, so we now distinguish between "Connected" and "Unconnected" runs.)
-Stay in frame the whole time. No speeding-up of the video.
-Balance tricks should be held
still for 3 seconds.
-All standard BKA competition rules apply.
-Use a competition-sized kendama (https://kendama.co.uk/size.html). (No oversizes like Musou, Prime, etc)
-No POV clips please - we need to see the person who is performing the trick.
-Please try to film in good lighting. It's not very easy to judge if there's an error or infringement in a fuzzy video, and you all want us to believe you, right? Thanks!
-It would be nice if you filmed your trick just for the forum, but you don't have to. Old videos and videos filmed for other events or competitions ARE allowed, as long as they are posted here by the person performing the trick.
-Records are for forum members only. (Anyone is welcome to sign up though.) You must post the link yourself.

GOOD LUCK!!
For anyone of you who has problems with the numbers above 20: last time it has only been 22 ;-). 23 was a failure!
Dave!!!
Thank you for starting this thread. I feel very pleased, yet: Marc W. was my inspiration starting with a quite "private" challenge - as nobody followed so far - with the Earthturn trick. Marc: go for it! Here comes the next level. I only say: 27 :-)
27 Earth Turns - juggling videos hosted @ Juggling.tv (http://juggling.tv/6950#id=http://juggling.tv/nuevo/econfig.php?key=0ecc1c3bdee598eadca3)
I tried to make an Around Tunbridge Wells afterwards (not part of the challenge), to honour Dave, yet, hm... guess where I failed. Exactly: at the first Earthturn...
And one last remark, please could we end a trick with something like "first to make 100", because otherwise I would need to count Voids 1500 Moshis tomorrow... ::)
Around the village! I told myself that I wouldn't stop until I got 10, and spent a little more time on this than I care to admit. That was probably the most satisfying sip of orange juice that I will ever have in my life. Well done guys lets keep this up!!!! lets set records for everything! we could eventually make it into an endurance compatition!!!!

Well done matt!!! so the jumping stick record is set at 10 guys!!!!! your jumping stick is a lot slower than mine is this the new technique you figured out for the consistency comp?
Cheers harry! Yeah its the new technique, less of a flick of the wrist and more just pushing the ball up so the hole is in the right place the whole time.
Hi Peter, gongrats to the 27 spins!!
I didn t had my hands on a kendama since my last Video - 22 spins,...
Will try to catch up with you guys and get back in the game!

Hmmm... I wonder..... do you think we should make this thread for records for Forum Members only?[nb]i.e. You must post a video of yourself.[/nb] That would maybe keep it more interesting & competitive between us. And of course, if Ricky or Mahoto-san want to sign-up to the forum they'd be most welcome. Or should it stay as a list of "absolute" records? What do people think?
i never thought about that in the first place, but i get a lot of attention on my facebook and youtube of my records, of people that can do more hits and they gonna try to beat me, i think records are suppose to get broken, and i think it will pump up the skills of every player, to get the consistancy skills too.
For me it is no problem to make a member threat just for the Forum members, but i guess you get more and more members every week now.
this Kendama Forum is the only English forum in Europe and maybe in the rest of the world.
Tell me what you think?
here is my best shot of the Around the Village record of today, just to pump up the number.
(and eelco ask me to show my skills on this one, i hope he comes with a answer too)
KendAlex Around the Village Record 26 Times (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_eukjutN_8#ws)

Well, we do keep getting new members, but I'm surprised that it's only about 2 or 3 a week, and not many of them post much, if at all. If the records thread was members-only, it might encourage a few more people to sign up and post their records. But then again, maybe it's a bit silly to ignore the fact that non-member records exist.
Maybe we could track both. e.g.:
Earth Turns: 38 by KendAlex
[noembed]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IW7B_fyx7w[/noembed](Non-member record 43 by Mahoto-san http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alT_EzK-1Xw )
I'm probably leaning more towards making it members-only, but if there is strong feeling against it, then maybe not. Anyone else got an opinion?

Actually, I only just noticed that when you throw the ball off the spike, you "pull back" to keep the hole stationary. I've always tended to spin it off - which I guess for long runs can cause a problem with string-twisting.
....so you just gave me a tip on how to beat you! ;)
Thanks, yeah it is.
I use that technik with all the around tricks, to keep the hole in front, and it helps a lot to keep the string straight.
it is always nice to see technics of difference people.
I can't wait to see your best shot again.
;)
i'm sorry Eelco, but i could not stand it you busted my record around the village with 32, so i get it back from you.
the record is 68 now.
i hope you can top it again, good luck

Well, Arthur's Around Japan record has now stood for the entire of 2012 (so far!). Something tells me that it's not going to last too much longer, though...
Well done, Alex, for today's achievements. 68 Aroud The Villages is some going, I think.
hey guys sorry i havent posted anything on here yet but i have been following this thread for a minute now. If the around japan record still stands at 34 I have beaten it by a whopping 1 with 35xs, prolly wont live long but no one can take the 35 I did for myself away, sorry for the poor framing I do not have much room in my bedroom terrible place to record I know better now

This challenge is a really good idea.
Let's keep it going dama folks.
I don't see how he could mind, since you doubled his record! Well done.
But why did you speed up the video? Because of that it looks like you only held some of them for 1 second!
I put it on 250% speed cause I really focused and did it quite slowly.
The original video is around 2.30 and I didn't want to bore people.
But I can upload it if necessary.
Cheers
Nah, I don't think anyone will question your new-found Dan powers. :)
But in future, I think all records should be normal-speed videos. I'll add that to the first post in this thread.
Concratulations Damadude.
Way to go.
there is some work to do :)
I finally had the time to try some of these. My records are still distinctly breakable, but we're on our way up. And I threw in one extra trick just for the fun of it.

Wow, good work. I'm off to bed right now, but I'll watch & verify those tomorrow, then update the first post.
Thanks for the bonus Suicide 1-Turn Moon Landing!
Around Village and Around Prefecture records are yours.
Moshi + 3 balls record is yours, although re-reading Dave's original post, he wrote
Quoteno made up combos
Maybe we should keep this as a "pure kendama" record list?
But with regard to the Slip Grip Specials, we are certainly impressed with what you did, but unfortunately you didn't hold a single one of them still for the standard 3 seconds. That's a competition standard, so unfortunately, we can't give you that one, even though all of your catches
looked solid. :(

I would say bens doesnt count seeing as the moshi's werent anywhere near actual moshikame speed.

My pleasure. That suicide moon landing was my trick of the day. I thought it would spice up my very repetitive video.
I do think it should be a kendama only contest, but that juggle and moshi kame thing was so silly I just had to try it.
I recorded another slip grip special video a few minutes ago with longer holds. It wasn't quite as good, but since I got it pretty quickly I thought I'd take it and run. I'll put it in this post when it finishes uploading.

And Mark, I was under the impression that moshi kame can go whatever speed you choose unless competition X specifies differently (which this one doesn't). But, I can't honestly say I'm proud enough of that "record" to fight for it if it gets questioned officially.

No arguments there. Boom!
Because I can't beat any of the current records (80% skill 20% short attention span) I started a new one:
BATON TWIRL ENDURANCE
I'm laying down the very beatable score of 20 rotations because thats the best I did before my forearm started to ache too much.
The rules are:
1. The twirl must be at a decent speed
2. No touching - as soon as any part of your body e.g. hand, arm, face, teeth, touch either ken or ball its over.
I counted every time my hand came up and I counted 20 but I await verification.
Kendama Baton Twirl 20 rotations (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdYodgL99PA#ws)
The gauntlet is down!!!
F.A.O. Greg the Strangler: I had Napalm Death on whilst filming.
I think you're counting "1" as you start the trick, but that's before you've done a full rotation, so that should be "0", and we'd call that a total of 19.
We'll count "0" at the point where the ken is horizontal, and in front of your left shoulder (as seen in this video) for the first time. Up to that point we consider that you're still in the 'entry' to the trick.
Still, well done for setting a new record! :-)
Finally i filmed it :)

That's some impressive control! Interesting that he doesn't seem to take any effort in his set-up... just straight into the next attempt as fast as you like.
If your friend joins the forum, we'll add it to the list in the first post of the thread. :)

PS Aren't they, strictly speaking, Spacewalk 1-Turn Lunars? You could conceivably exit the Spacewalk without the extra rotation on the ken, but it would probably take a lot more accuracy for the landing?

This makes us realise we have not yet distinguished between "Consecutive tricks" and "Consecutive connected tricks"[nb]Your ATWs are "connected". i.e. You did not reset to start position between each trick.[/nb]. We'll have to update that at some point.
Sorry about that, i just went off the around japan/ around the village records and assumed they had to be connected.
No need to apologise, nothing wrong with either method. It's just that the differentiation hadn't occurred to us until now.

What a coincidence! :)
I made a new try last evening and bumped it up to 36 lighthouses in a row. Video updated in my original post.
Well done, happygoat, except.... well this thread is only for a bit of fun, but we were firm with benjugglin, so it's only fair to hold you to the same standards:
Quote from: BKA on 19 January, 2012, 16:05:33...unfortunately you didn't hold a single one of them still for the standard 3 seconds. That's a competition standard, so unfortunately, we can't give you that one, even though all of your catches looked solid. :(
In your first video, you were cutting the "3 seconds" pretty fine quite a few times, but we gave you the benefit of the doubt. But in this one, I don't think a single one was held still for 3 seconds, and some of them looked like they weren't even completely still before you took the ken off. So sorry, but your record remains at 25. We're sure you can beat that - just don't be in such a hurry. :)
Edit: Added "
-Balance tricks should be held still for 3 seconds." to the first post's rules.
I agree - fair enough, it shouldn't be that hard to repeat it (or bump the record even more up 8))! I'll take it as a challenge... :D

Kendama Co Lighthouse Flip Contest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYiLNyO2GOI#ws) does this count?
Interesting...
So, firstly, that was 48, and well done!
Some thoughts that occur to us:
- You didn't film this "for the forum".... but hey, I guess that doesn't matter, you still did it, right? And it doesn't say you have to in the rules, so no problem there. In fact, to be clear, maybe we can now say something like "old videos and videos filmed for other events or competitions ARE allowed, as long as they are posted here by the person performing the trick."
- You adjusted the string with your free hand 4(?) times. Hmmmm. Now if this was a BKA live competition, that would not be allowed. Reading back the rules as originally set by Dave, he wrote
Quote...perform said trick, then without readjusting complete the same trick again and again and again
We went back and watched the existing record by Jarett, and he does a little finger twiddle with the hand holding the ball a few times, in order to adjust the string. So again, that would not be allowed in a live competition... but we already allowed it in the thread. Oops. So on that basis, I think we
have to allow your new record to stand. Well done.
But I think to be consistent with our own rules, what we should do is "archive" your record as an anomaly. So... that means we have to go back and check the previous entries for Lighthouse Somersault: KendAlex did 12... but only 2 in a row without finger twiddles. Thorny did 21, but watching carefully, we reckon that there's a run of 9 (#6-#14) where he didn't adjust... so that's the new "proper" record.
jafish, you've still got the record of 31 on a stringless kendama though!
We'll also add "
Please try to film in good lighting." to the rules. It's not very easy to judge if there's an error or infringement in a fuzzy video, and you all want us to believe you, right?
Right, sorry if this all seems a bit strict, but ultimately, clear rules = no arguments.
That is fine man! I filmed that for something else and didn't follow the BKA Forum guidelines! I completely understand!

We were tough on Ben with the SGSs, so have to apply the same rigour to you for those Lunar ones. I'm afraid you have a rather sketchy definition of both "still" and of "3 seconds". Which is a shame, because it's clear that you can do those tricks well. We'd encourage you to have another crack at those 2, making sure you breathe slowly and count "elephants" or "Mississippis" in threes next time. For counting purposes, remember that the moment the balance is settled is not "one", but "zero".
[Balance lands, and hand stops moving]"One Mississippi
Two Mississippi
Three Mississippi" <-- 3 seconds ends on the red "i".
I've had a few good runs at UFO lately, so I thought I'd give it a crack tonight.

Hi Ben,
See the first post in this thread to see what's been set. There are certainly gaps.
They should be one standard trick though, no combination tricks. But go for it!
Will do. I'll have a go at setting/breaking some records tomorrow.

We call them Reverse Aeroplanes, but accepted! Well done.
Notes for next time:
Better visibility if the sun is behind the camera.
For Reverse tricks like this, the Ken (or tama) must travel up in the triangle between your shoulders and your hand. A couple of these ones were borderline, but okay.
Noted and thanks :)

Going to have to watch that on slomo to verify... Later today.
That's fine. I thought it may have been a bit fast. I understand it may be shorter than 47 as some catches are out of view.
Ben, you have the record... but it is only 16.
#9 dipped out of frame, as did #26, so #s10-25 set the record. As for the later ones, there were some that dipped out of frame, and also a couple where the ken could not be seen to entirely circle the ball. This trick is particularly angle-sensitive, so you need to make sure you are standing with your shoulders completely square-on to the camera.
The sideways video didn't help to judge, either!
Well done, but we're sure you can beat your own record again very soon with a bit of care....
I thought that would've been the case. I'll take more care next time that I try the record again :)
Sorry it's taken a little time to get round to this The Void.

I might go for consecutive turntables. As in 1 turntable, pause, turntable, pause etc. Or would o have to reset and pull up again?
Those are two different records.
With resets, it's "Turntables". Without, it's "Connected Turntables". Without checking, I think Dimensions currently holds the record for the latter. (Check the link in the first post in this thread.)
Connected is turntable, pause, turntable right? I'll have a look at the thread now
Rob holds the current record at 8.
Rob's record is not for Connected Turntables, as he has several string/grip adjustments in that video. It would have been Connected without the adjustments. We're not requiring the Big cup catch for this one.
So, there is no Connected Turntables record currently.
I'll try for both anyway. Connected and consecutive.
Right, here's a very short run of Connected Juggle Big Cups. I'm sure someone can beat this pretty quickly. Remember the "without readjusting" rule though!

Interesting!....
Now, for this trick, the strict competition/grading rule is that the trick must start with the ball held, and on the release, the ball must immediately start to swing forwards, with no backswing beforehand.
So, with this in mind, what do we make of your efforts?...
Hmmm, tricky. Now you start with the ball held, sure, but then what, precisely?
On close watching, my decision is that although there appears to be a very small backswing, this is still while the ball is being held, and on release the forwards movement begins. However it is very borderline, and therefore, I was watching like a hawk for any infraction... which I detected on attempt number 100, so...
You have set the record at 99 Swing Ins.
Note for you/others in future: Try to make sure that the string is not vertical at the beginning of your attempt, by holding the ball (at least slightly) behind the ken. A 45˚ angle in the string (relative to the floor) is recommended.
Note: Moderators may participate in record attempts, but if so, their attempts will be judged by a different moderator. Any attempts at breaking a record currently held by a moderator will be judged by a different moderator.
PS How appropriate that your current forum status is "Swing In King" ;)
It's been a long time, eh?
So, it is neither stabs, nor big cup juggle.
I decided to go for something a bit newer: Scoop up Big Cup.
Kendama Consistency: Scoop-up Big Cup - juggling videos hosted @ Juggling.tv (http://juggling.tv/14534#id=http://juggling.tv/nuevo/econfig.php?key=7fd3b12105ec17a67dba)
shalafi, your records have been viewed by a moderator, and their decision is.....
A) That's not Scoop Up Big Cup, it's Scooping Big Cup
B) The trick rule as defined for EKO 2012 was "6. Sukui Oozara/Scooping Big Cup (Cross-piece must be vertical at contact)" (about 15° error was allowed).
C) Therefore, sorry, none count. :-( Cross-piece too tilted each time.
Note: Moderators may participate in record attempts, but if so, their attempts will be judged by a different moderator. Any attempts at breaking a record currently held by a moderator will be judged by a different moderator.
A) my bad, I always got those two names wrong
B) I swear I tried to make vertical contact. I agree that some of them are not (I wasn't sure when I did it and I reviewed the vid), but I wasn't expecting a "none of them" :-(
I must try harder then.
The Void, your records have been viewed by a moderator, and their decision is.....
This is quite tricky, since the hole has to be properly resting on the spike, and that is a bit difficult to appreciate properly on video.
In particular attempts #7 and #12 were complicated to see and had to re-watch a few times, but I believe they are all good.
So 17 Slip-on-Stick that is.
Note: Moderators may participate in record attempts, but if so, their attempts will be judged by a different moderator. Any attempts at breaking a record currently held by a moderator will be judged by a different moderator.

When I read that, I thought "I don't do that, I only do a single backswing." Then I watched the video again. Ah. Right, okay. In my practices, I'm in the habit of starting with my hand quite far forwards, and beginning the backswing from there. It seems in his case I've been moving into the forwards position and then immediately starting the backswing, which does make it a "back and forth". So thanks for calling me out on that, and also for letting me off. I shall make a point of starting from a still position in future! Cheers.
"Your style is unorthodox...".
"But effective" :)
Nicely done!
Cheers, Donald.

I had a little go at this earlier. I managed a 1 and an almost. I think your record is safe for the moment if I'm your only competition, Mr Void. :)
It's certainly a tricky one to get consistent. But I'm sure someone can beat 3....
I thought I could beat 2 UFZeroes too.

Mods: be tough on horizontality for this one!
More UFZeroes

I noticed there wasn't a record for Half-Swirl Aeroplane. I didn't do very much about it.

Pretty sure I know someone who could beat this in his sleep....

"The first video of UFO Zeros looks good to me, so that's 3.
The second one, I'm not convinced by the horizontality of the 3rd one, so I'll keep the first record."

I tried some Fast Hand Spikes and then some Hanging Fast Hand Spikes last night. (Mods, you can ignore the acrobat bits after the latter!)

Today I found some time to be really really boring. (Sorry, mods!)
