The kendama wikipedia entry seems pretty crazy and wrong.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kendama

I haven't got time to fix it all myself and I'm not very experienced editing wikipedia so maybe we all could go in and clean it up a bit.

The trick list is weird, maybe we can reference Void's books or the BKA website.
It also has a "Rules" section which is odd.

Specifically I was there to see if there was anything about competitions and competition formats on there which there isn't at all.

The yo-yo page seems to have a better format.

The bilboquet page is also a bit wonky.

being monolingual I have no idea how good the pages in other languages are.

I was thinking on making a full wiki about kendama :-)

Given that Wikipedia tries to stay generalistic, they are likely to delete information that is considered non-relevant.

That is, if you start creating pages for each famous kendama player, or kendama model, or competition, or...

But, there is the wikia project to create wikis for very specific concepts, they already have one for kendama, but it has not been edited much.

I suggest we take that over and expand it: http://kendama.wikia.com/wiki/Kendama_Wiki

Yup I agree. The main wikipedia should give good overall information though.
The history part is good but the rest is not.

I'm wondering what @Void and @BKA think since the BKA website basically serves that purpose very well and it will be a tricky exercise to write it without plagarism! If the article becomes as good or wikipedia become competition or can it be written to drive traffic to kendama.co.uk ?

BKA

It's hard enough work running one website. BKA will stay concentrated on our own site.

The whole point of a wiki is that it is what its users make it. If you think something is wrong/poorly written on a wiki... don't moan, do something about it!

I was planning to start adding information about kendama brands or players on wikia, it's all about a bit of time every now and then and it grows.

Or I may make it in Spanish on my own wiki (yes, I do have my own wiki, which has been unused for years)

I'm on it.
I've decided to make a separate "list of kendama tricks" page which is basically a translation of the japanese list of kendama tricks page (translated here: http://bit.ly/1sJFF20 )

I have two questions. Are the 100 tricks listed the same as the 100 tricks here http://kendama.co.uk/100tricks.html ?
And what is the story behind them? The google translation of that intro paragraph is pretty nonsensical.

I created basic pages for the JKA approved kendamas, I wanted to cover the BKA approved ones as well, and also the "essential tricks" for Kyu / Dan grading

Some other day I'll go into Kendama players and such. I think it can be a nice place to have the information organized (or more organized).

At a cursory glance, they would appear to be.

Did you read the final sentence of the intro paragraph on that page? We have no other story.

Well I've had a fun day making this! I hope people will read it and make improvements. It really needs pictures but the text does OK.
Hopefully the wikipedia guardians will approve!
I may tackle the other page later this week.

Thanks for the hard work, Sam, going to read through it tonight. The list of tricks on the current kendama Wikipedia page makes for some serious nonsense reading.

Cool, it needs way more citations too I know where they are but there is 145 tricks on there right now so it may take a while.
I haven't played with editing wikipedia much before but it is actually pretty fun (nerd alert!).
It is also slightly disturbing how much I know about kendama, but I figure I may as well put that knowledge to some good use.

If you want to get involved I've put ideas on the "Talk" pages

Looks great Sam! That's going to be a wonderful resource on one of those zero-inspiration days :-)

A couple years back, I started looking for some information on how kendama got into the juggling community. I don't know if it would be interesting to add that under the history or contemporary culture?
Kendama Belgium!

My feeling is more information is good. If you can cite a source even better. It'll all get edited to some sense and logic in time.
