[Tiger Kendama] unknown kendama
« on: 05 January, 2015, 16:56:53 »
I found a shop in glasgow that sells kendamas!

needless to say I quickly bought one for my friend that's been super interested but not had one of his own. I also got myself a teeny tiny one for myself which is as hard to click on as my man's mighty flea is to throw...

but we have no idea what kind of wood they're made of! The packaging only had a strangulation warning, absolutely nothing about the actual kendama.

so does anyone have any idea on how I can identify these kendamas? The shop's called tiger, all their stuff is own brand. I can send pictures if thathelps, but I assume it's the feel and weight that'll give it away the most. I know it's a long shot, but none of us know a thing about wood and we're really curious to know what it is.

It's a Tiger. See: http://www.kendama.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1612.msg17663.html#msg17663
Don't know about the wood. At a guess, birch. shalafi?

I am not good at recognizing wood types, I can say that it is quite light (both in colour and in weight)

They are ok, actually I'm more than happy for 7 euros. It has the quality I'd expect from a 12-15 euro kendama. As I said in the other post, the tama is too light for my liking, but then so are shin-fuji. I don't have a precision scale, so I can't tell exact weights.

Interesting thing is that they have no seal and no mark on them, which is... interesting. I could re-brand it easily XD.

The big one came stringed right handed. The small one left-handed. I checked a few more in the shop and they were all the same.

The string is done the same way the classic Kendama USA are. I won't be surprised if they came from the same Chinese factory, or from a similar one.

Yes, small kendamas are usually as unforgiving as this one.

So far I could do most of the tricks I tried. Lighthouse was quite easy, so the paint is not slippery at all.

I have no idea how good or bad will it wear out.

Hans also has one and he's also gladly surprised by the quality.

And yes, the string is quite bad.

I am using it regularly, I'll let you guys know how the paint holds up.

Since Flying Tiger is a chain of stores originating from Sweden, I would think that it is birch wood.

If you're strapped for cash but want a good kendama, this is not that bad an option.

I actually changed the string of the small kendama I got. It works noticeably better with a good string.

Flying Tiger expanded their selection with four new colours! Really tempted to get a bunch of them as workshop kendamas (after changing the string of course).

Denmark* !!
(The name Tiger is pronounced the same way as we pronounce the danish 10 kroner coin "ti'er", almost everything in the danish stores is 10 kr. as well)
