How fast did your TK16 chip?
« on: 14 June, 2015, 13:09:20 »
I just got a new blue TK16 (wanted red though...) and after playing for no more than 30 minutes, I got a chip near the hole from missing an aeroplane and was kinda surprised.
Also weirdly, it's pink underneath the blue paint? I'm not sure how clearly you can see it from the pic though.

Well I was expecting dents and chips eventually, especially with a superglued spike, but not within the first 30 minutes, lol.
I'm not mad, just surprised and amused.

Now I'm wondering how long till everyone else's TK16 got its first chip.

On the bright side... now you don't have to worry about getting your first chip. :)
The nature of kendama play is... physics! Sooner or later an impact is going to cause some damage. Maybe you were unlucky. But the edge of the hole is a vulnerable point for paint, so maybe it's not so surprising that that's where it happened. I don't remember how soon my TK16 chipped.... but there was probably concrete involved.
If you don't want to BUY MY BOOKS 😉, then why not ask your local library to order them in, and read them for free? That would help too. Cheers!

It would be way more BA if I had dropped it on concrete doing some trick, instead of after less than 10 aeroplanes, heh.
But nah, I'm cool with chips on my tama. It adds character I feel.

Also I wasn't expecting such a small hole and thick spike, but hooray for improving accuracy!
Now I just gotta get my lighthouses down on glossy surfaces.

Here's my red after a few weeks heavy play without a glued spike, no chips yet, lots of dents and dings and it has met concrete more than a few times.

It's worth noting that the spike didn't blunt at all until a particular concrete drop, it must've been a direct hit.

I guess you just got unlucky, how's the paint holding up now? Any more chips?

Makes me wonder what a truly beat up TK looks like, anyone got a shredded one?

I played it for a couple more days and the chip got bigger. But otherwise, the tama has just been getting dents.

I would be playing with it more but I received a pink Ozora in the mail, and well, I can't help but gravitate towards shiny things.

Your red... wow! I thought THAT was beat up, but that's just a few weeks play?
I'm curious as well to see a more beaten up TK. D:

Mine chipped pretty quick especially where there was a knot going through it from the hole to the bottom half of the tama. After more play though it now mainly just dents.

But apart from that I really like it, and it makes you work for lighthouses and lunars which is a good thing ;)

My first Ever Kendama.. A black TK16 bought in 2007. They are work-horses. Don't expect it to get tacky for a long while though

I love tk16's

here are mine. My tk's dont chip they just dent.

The red one I got from a friend in a trade, he is a greasemonkey.. so that explains the dark wood.
